Our project continues… This week we were measuring up our pieces of wood, marking them up and straightening edges. It won’t be long until it’s time to put everything together!

We are on to the next step of our carpentry project, sanding all the rough bits off our planks.

We are starting a new woodwork project. We got given an untreated pallet and we spent the day breaking it down so we can use the planks in our project. We started with some lessons on how to use the saw and then the tamariki practised their sawing skills. Work was halted when we got an unexpected visitor. One of our tamariki named them Lenny and we watched Lenny until they were safely away from our workspace. We continued with our mahi and at the end of the day the pallet was in pieces. Our project continues next week…

It’s apple harvesting time! We picked all the apples we could reach and learned how to use the peelers. We spent most of yesterday morning peeling the skins off the apples. One of our tamariki discovered he could create pictures using his peeler. He made a sad face and Mickey Mouse. Brenda our amazing cook stewed the apples with some spices. We had it for morning tea today with our quinoa and fruit. The feedback was positive “It’s so good I want to eat the whole bowl” one of the children said after trying it.
