Tēnā koutou, Talofa lava, Malo e lelei, Nihao, こんにちは, 안녕하세요, Zdravo, Fakaalofa lahi atu, Kia ora whānau, नमस्ते, As-Salam-u-Alaikum,

Kia ora whānau,

Welcome to Week 8 Term 2 2026.

This week (weather permitting) have our first Walkathon. We are fundraising for Year 6 camp and new sports uniforms. Your child should have brought a sponsorship form home. They will be walking laps of the field, bike track or courts. The idea is to sponsor an amount for the number of laps they do. On the day each syndicate will walk their track from 12:40-1:50 (weather permitting) and do as many laps as they can. The teachers will mark each lap on a lanyard that we have made for each child. At the end of the day, the teachers will post the number of completed laps onto Hero. The money will be collected the following week, by the class teacher and collated at the office. There is no pressure on families to donate, please do not worry, this is just a fun way to try fundraising. Families are welcome to come along and watch. We will have a BBQ going for you during the lunch time (prior to the Walkathon). The Ribblesdale pedestrian gate will be unlocked. We have to lock all the other gates to keep our little ones safe. The children will be able to order an ice-block that day. Ice blocks are $1. Orders will be taken in class that morning.

Here are the details:

Date: Thursday 11 June 2026

Time: 12:40pm-1:50pm

Location: Bike track, courts & field

Theme: Dress up in colours of their syndicates (optional)

Kowhai- yellow

Nikau- green

Pohutukawa- red

Kauri- blue

Timings for the event

12:40- all classes to meet in their area to go over expectations

12:50- children to start walking (May to announce over loudspeaker)

1:50- end of walk-a-thon

1:55-2:00- all classes back in their rooms for afternoon roll and calm down time (ice blocks will be distributed during this time)

We are blessed to have three bilingual/enrichment classes at our school. Gyan Deep (Cultural enrichment- Hindi, Fijian, Sri Lankan, Bangladeshi, Middle Eastern) are connecting with Papatoetoe North school early next term and sharing learning and fun with their Hindi enrichment classes. Gyan Deep is a multi-level learning classroom. Multi-level can often ensure children make accelerated progress in learning and behaviour. We often see this happening. The children help each other to learn and grow, forming close friendships like a family. The children in Gyan Deep do very well, academically and socially. We are very proud to offer classes such as these at Sunnyvale.

At present we are all engaging in the Kia Kaha anti-bullying program. Kia Kaha consists of a comprehensive range of anti-bullying resources to help children and young people learn and apply a range of safe practices that they can use to build and maintain successful relationships throughout their lives. This program is delivered in partnership with the NZ Police.

We have our Year 5-6 Pubertal Change program coming up. We have used Nest Consulting over the past 7 years and have found them very good. They deliver the information the children need to know in an appropriate and supportive manner. There is an online parent and whānau hui that you are able to join prior to the program to ask questions and such on Thursday June 25th at 3:30. Here is the Zoom Link.

Welcome to Week 7 Term 2 2026. This week is Samoan Language Week. The theme for the week is: "'E afua mai i mauga tetele manuia o le nu'u" (From the high mountains are the blessings of the village). On Friday (or any day this week) children may wear their cultural clothing if they wish to.

I hope you all had a wonderful long weekend.

This week we are hoping to get back some of our missing library books. Mrs Fraser has been doing such an amazing job in the library and it is a well-loved abd busy place. At present, we are missing 140 books. If you could have a look at home and return any we would really appreciate it. Mrs Fraser will send slips home if your child had one of these books so that you know what you are looking for. Thank you.

Kia ora whānau,

Welcome to Week 6 Term 1 2026.

On the 29th of May, this Friday prior to King’s Birthday weekend, we have a staff only day. Teachers will be engaging in PLD with Restorative Schools and Kaiāwhina will be learning from Speech Therapists. No school that day.

We would like to thank all our volunteer netball coaches. Thank you so much for giving your time to our netball teams. The students really appreciate it and enjoy the sport.

We had an unscheduled visit from a few ducklings last week. Charlotte appointed herself the guardian of them. She made an instructional poster. Miss Jamieson's Friday Art Group made these bugs. Very cool!

Have a great week,
