Where is Glendowie?
I’ve had a few enquires about our location so I thought I’d share how close we are to all the suburbs East of Route 1!!!
Between 10am and 2pm it’s pretty good for traffic in the area so I’ve lined the time up of Acorn Performers to not clash with the school run, after-school programs or rush hour.
From Orakei, Remuera, Mount Wellington, Panmure, Pakuranga it’s between 10-20 minutes drive!
And if you’re coming from further you can easily access local supermarkets in Glen Innes or enjoy this beautiful area.
There are plenty of walks at St Heliers beach, Di**le Dell, Madills Farm playground, (has a toddler bike track), Churchill park to see some farm animals, or just have a coffee at the many good cafes nearby.
I’ve added some maps taken today mid-morning to help see the possible drive times if you’re in the East.
Acorn Performers is open to anyone Auckland-wide so just message me through this page if you have any further questions 👍😊

With a move from Dunedin to Auckland, the plans to start the Holiday Academy in Term One break fell a little flat, with a drama far beyond our imaginings!
So much has changed in a short time!
And so has Acorn Performers.
With the decision to home-school my youngest child I’m looking at reimagining Acorn Performers for other children who are home-schooled too in the Auckland region.
Acorn Performers has been run successfully in schools for 6 years. Small class sizes ensure every child can make their ideas known, take part in developing the drama and have greater opportunities to have their unique strengths shine. The children always have the freshest and greatest ideas,so whilst I plan the theme or introduce the material it is the children of Acorn Performers who bring it to life.
Our material is also life-giving, inspirational and beyond anything a lot of fun!
Some examples of our performances gone past have been physical theatre pieces to classical music, retelling many favourite children’s stories, poetry readings, devised pieces, writing plays, creating props, choosing costumes, recreating famous works of art, shadow puppetry and sharing the many Drama games we use to develop good performance skills. The list is endless!
At the end of each term family members and friends are invited to watch what we have created. This is a significant moment in the confidence-building element of the course. Over the years I have seen shy children blossom, ones unable to speak in public go on to come second in the school speech competition. It has been a joy to watch incredible young people overcome their fears and really shine.
Sooooo WATCH THIS SPACE! A weekly Drama workshop especially for homeschooled primary-aged children will be starting in Term 3....somewhere in the Eastern Bays.

Cardboard into antique style frames...with just a leftover box and a little paint. These will be used to frame our recreated portraits of some famous works of art!

An amazing end of term performance yesterday. We devised this term with our only inspiration being the word ‘Transformation’. The creativity that it encouraged was outstanding! We ended up creating a story about an apple, all alone at the top of a tree, and how it’s seeds produced a whole new tree, blossoms and fruit, all set to Max Richters stunning piece of music ‘on the nature of daylight’
