On Thursday, the 3rd of September, Howick Intermediate celebrated Cultural Day.
In the morning we all enjoyed a cultural parade around the top dome. The students were divided into groups based on their ethnicity and they all showcased their culture by wearing clothes that had connections to their culture.
The students had a chance to show how they connected with their culture and what it meant to them by bringing food for a shared lunch.
It was great to see all the different foods that were brought by everyone and great to taste food from different cultures.
In the afternoon classes enjoyed cultural activities during and learnt about the different cultures, further enhancing the effect of Culture Day.

On Friday a group of students were lucky enough to attend a Literacy event organised by the Auckland Literacy Association at Ponsonby Intermediate School. The 10 students spent the day learning about Literacy through the arts. There were four speakers, Stu Duvall, Sally Sutton, Marcus Winter and Lauren Jackson, who guided us through visual literacy, acting activities, and collaborative storytelling with sand. It was so much fun and really cool to learn about all the ways literacy can be shown.

Looking forward to celebrating all Cultures on Thursday 3 September at our annual Cultural Celebration Day.

Please support your child to select clothing that will showcase their culture for the day (this is not a 'Non-Uniform' Day).

We ask that students bring a small plate of their cultural food with them to school to share with their peers.

We ask that students do not bring drinks to share, as this becomes too difficult.
