Sunnybrae Normal School

Sunnybrae Normal School A connected community of positively engaged learners Each child is an individual with differing needs, talents and abilities.

Striving for excellence in teaching and learning with the aim of ensuring maximum achievement levels for all students is a key goal. At Sunnybrae Normal School we believe that all children have the right and ability to learn; we have high expectations of every student. Children learn at different rates and in different ways and we acknowledge this by providing a range of activities and settings for learning. On-going assessment informs the planning of programmes.

🧚Here are some photos of our recent production of Peter Pan. 🧚

We are very grateful for our entire school community's support of this epic production - it really gave our tamariki (children) an opportunity to shine on stage! 🌟

There are so many people to thank - our school team, volunteers, the families of our staff and students and our wonderful students who spent many hours learning their dances and their lines.

We are so proud of how well our children performed!

Mālō e Lelei!

This week we have been celebrating Tongan Language Week - Uike Kātoangaʻi ʻo e Lea Faka-Tonga.

It has been wonderful to see our children with Tongan heritage share their knowledge and culture with us and for us to learn more about the Pacific Island of Tonga!

Some of our tamariki have had an awesome day along side St Thomas School and our iwi partners Ngāti Pāoa on the first part of our learning as a tamariki tūhoruhoru rōpū (group).

This morning we went to Maungarei and in the afternoon to te Kai-a-Hiku. We learnt some histories and pūrākau and had delicious kai and played some fun games.

Ngā mihi to whaea drinA and Matua Unc, for sharing their mātauranga (knowledge) with us. Thanks also to our kaiako and parent helpers for coming along to learn too.

I had some spoken word poets visit today to share the mahi they’ve been working on for speech competitions. It was great to hear Misi, Junior and Kam share their thoughts on the topic ‘our roots, our voices, or future’.

I felt privileged to learn about how important their culture and family are to them and their hopes for the future around being an actor, a league player and an electrician who cares about the environment!

Ka mau te wehi tama mā!
