Today four of our senior students represented Sunnybrae at the Mana Ora Youth Resilience Day to learn more about environmental sustainability, community connection and holistic well-being.
We can’t wait to hear from them about what they have learned.
Ngā mihi to Matua Stephen for taking our tamariki into the city using sustainable transport!

This week is support staff week in Aotearoa New Zealand and we want to acknowledge and appreciate the wonderful support staff at Sunnybrae.
We have so many wonderful adults here who guide, teach and take care of our tamariki and our school. Our office admin, accounts, librarian, specialist teachers, classroom release teachers, caretaker, ESOL support teacher and teacher aides and learning assistants!
I tried to get pictures of all these wonderful people but they were busy out there doing a great job.
Thank you team for all that you do, you are appreciated!

This afternoon we celebrated all of our great work of showing our school values last term by having our RICE Rewards afternoon!
It was great to have our whole school split into different groups with children of all ages learning and playing alongside each other. We love to see how this tuakana/teina approach to learning works and celebrates whanaungatanga!
Thanks to Mrs Barlow for organising this afternoon and to our staff for preparing such fun learning activities!
🐝 Sunnybee enjoyed his afternoon too 🐝

We’ve had so many fantastic visitors to the office this week who have shared their writing. There’s been lots of persuasive writing, for example why Miss Parr should get free coffee or why eggs are better than weetbix (more protein, you can make eggs in lots of ways etc)! And there was also lots of work sharing what our ākonga have learnt about ANZAC day.
Ezra made a very special book about her family and her grandfathers who served in the war. She had pictures and stories to tell from her family history.
It’s amazing to have chats with our learners as they share their successes when they visit us.
Kia pai tō mutunga wiki.
Have a good weekend.

A Visit from the Firefighters
Earlier this week, as the conclusion of our Firewise unit, our Year 1 tamariki had a wonderful visit from the firefighters. This was a great way for the children to show what they have learned in class.
The tamariki talked about what to do if there is a fire and practiced how to "Get Down Low and Get Out Fast" as soon as they heard the smoke detector go off.
A major highlight of the visit was getting to explore the fire truck to see how all the equipment works. The excitement continued as the children also had the opportunity to have a go using the fire hose!
We are very proud of how well the children listened and shared their Firewise knowledge. A big thank you to the fire crew for visiting our tamariki and making the experience so memorable.

Kia ora e te whānau,
We're looking forward to seeing all of our tamariki back at school tomorrow for a fantastic Term 2! Our teachers have lots of exciting learning planned this term, our Year 5 and 6 children will be heading on camp in June, and of course we will be celebrating Matariki later in the term.
Tomorrow we will welcome new students and whānau to our school with a mihi whakatau at 9am in our school hall. All of our community is welcome to attend this event.
See you tomorrow everyone!
