A short doco on the artwork specifically created for the Fale Pasifika, and the artists behind this work sharing their stories about them.
Fale Pasifika
The Fale Pasifika is an iconic building on campus. We are part of the University's Pacific community and the Fale is our spiritual home.

Today we welcomed the Malaga Carvings that were carved by students almost 20 years ago.
For over a decade they witnessed tens of thousands of students passing through the HSB quad along Symonds Street. Then due to the revamp of this area the carvings needed to be moved and they have come down to the Fale Pasifika complex to reside for many many more decades.
Thank you to those who took played their part in their 'Malaga' to Pacific Studies.

14 years ago, one of the most iconic complexes in the world was built at The University of Auckland. The Fale Pasifika became the spiritual home and landmark for Pacific Peoples not only studying at New Zealand's leading institution, but also for Pasifika communities in Aotearoa New Zealand.
Housed at the Fale Pasifika was the Centre for Pacific Studies (CPS) which is now joined with Māori Studies under one school - Te Wanaga o Waipapa.
These are just some of the highlights of the opening of this magnificent complex back in 2004. What an amazing achievement, and we remember and honour those who fought hard and were involved in this project.
