Today the tamariki asked Whaea Tirisa if they could collect some dry leaves from outside because they wanted to paint them and do leaf printing. Whaea Tirisa encouraged the children to think about what they might need for the experience and asked, โWhat colour paint should we use?โ
Aylah quickly said, โPink!โ Amarni smiled and said, โI want pink too!โ Kiaan added, โPink paint will look cool on the leaves.โ Masley excitedly shared, โWe can press them on the white paper and make prints.โ Dylan said, โThe pink leaves are going to look beautiful!โ
The tamariki carefully collected dry leaves and explored the different shapes and textures. They painted the leaves with pink paint and pressed them onto white paper, watching the patterns and leaf veins appear clearly. The children proudly talked about how easy and fun it was to make leaf prints, sharing their excitement with one another as they created their artwork.
Whaea Tirisa used intentional teaching strategies by encouraging conversations, asking open-ended questions, and supporting the tamariki to explore creativity through nature-based art. This experience supported the childrenโs language development, cooperative play, fine motor skills, and confidence in expressing their own ideas and preferences.
