The way these workshops come together- with like minded people making books, is pretty special!

Such a great group today. All 4 did a spectacular job making a section sewn book with a hard cover. Folding pages, tipping on endpapers, stabbing holes, sewing, spinelining, making covers and casing in..... they took it all in stride and the outcomes were awesome.

Thanks so much for coming, it was a joy to have you all in the bindery and such a great day!

Shoe makers, like bookbinders, are few and far between in NZ.

There are a small number of them/us trying our best. But when there are no apprenticeships (or courses) to promote new learning- plus shipping materials and parts being expensive (and hard to source) to the bottom of the world- it's hard to be positive about the future of handmade here in our little island nation.

Hey! I have been a bit quiet on the old Social meeds....

I am spending some time assisting at the AUT bindery this year!

When I first started The Binding Studio back in 2009, I was also the bookbinding technician at AUTs Art and Design school. It's nice to be back, helping students present their work using this magical craft.

Meanwhile, I am still around! I am taking on binding commissions, running workshops, sending out your material and tool orders and going about normal business!
