We Speak Your Child’s Language.
At Sunnynook Private Kindergarten, we know every child’s language journey is different. Some of our tamariki arrive speaking two (or even three!) languages at home, while others are starting with little or no English at all.
Our teachers provide gentle, tailored support so children learning English as a second language feel safe and included, capable, celebrated and confident to find their voice in their own time.
We love to honour the languages spoken at home. Whether that’s through songs, stories, or simply learning a new word from whānau. Because every child deserves to feel seen, heard, and proud of who they are.

We love the funny, thoughtful and wise things our tamariki say!
Today we heard:
💬 “When I grow up, I’m going to be a jellybean doctor.”
What’s the funniest or sweetest thing your little one has said recently? Let’s share a laugh! 😂

Settling in at Kindergarten is different for every child — and that’s okay! Some jump right in, while others need a little extra time and reassurance.
Here are a few things that can help your child to settle:
🌟 Short attendance initially before full days
🌟 Saying goodbye confidently and cheerfully - we welcome you to stay to play for a short time, and then it’s best to confidently say goodbye.
🌟 Bringing a favourite comfort item from home
🌟 Trusting that we’ll comfort and support your child when you leave. Our team is experienced in supporting children to settle and build trusting relationships, and your child’s sense of belonging here is our priority.

That is a rare thing in any ECE service these days.
Louise may have the wildest hair on our team, but she has the heartiest laugh!

Biting. One day it seems our young toddler is a sweet, cheery little bundle of joy, and the next minute we are giving them a cuddle and feeling a painful bite on the shoulder. Sharing this useful blog for parents. If you have a child who has started to bite recently, this blog offers some valuable insights and suggestions to help you and your child through this phase...

"Friday Feels"
One of our tamariki said today:
💬 “I love coming here because it’s my favourite place in the whole world.” 🥹
These little moments remind us why we do what we do.

Participating in cooking experiences provides so much rich learning for children. Measuring, science concepts, cooperation and turn-taking, and then there’s the taste testing!
