Today, a painting activity was set up for our tamariki. One child came and sat at the table, happily saying, “I’m very happy because I came to school today!” I asked, “Are you happy?” and she replied, “Yes, and I am drawing my happy face too.” She painted a picture of herself and, with my guidance, wrote her name underneath. This was a wonderful opportunity to support children in expressing their emotions and developing empathy through art. 🎨

This week, our tamariki have been busy getting ready for our Diwali celebration! We began the week learning about why we celebrate Diwali and the beautiful meaning behind the Festival of Lights. The children enjoyed making their own colourful diyas and even tried a fun science experiment to create fireworks (which didn’t quite go as planned 🤣 but we had lots of laughs and learning along the way🤭). We’ve also been practising a Diwali song, which we’re so excited to perform for our parents this Friday. 🪔🎶
It’s been a wonderful week filled with creativity, curiosity, and celebration

Fiji Language Week Celebration 🌺

Today at our preschool, we celebrated Fiji Language Week with lots of joy and learning! The children took part in a lively meke (traditional Fijian dance), moving their hands and feet to the beat with big smiles on their faces. Whaea Emali shared stories about Fiji’s history, helping the tamariki understand more about the islands and their beautiful culture.
For morning tea, everyone enjoyed some delicious Fijian bread and a warm cup of black tea — it was a real treat! Throughout the week, we had been exploring Fijian myths and legends, sparking the children’s curiosity and imagination.
Did you know? 🇫🇯 Fiji is made up of more than 300 islands, each with its own unique beauty and traditions!
It was a wonderful way to celebrate and honour the Fijian language, stories, and culture together💙

Mā is white, whero is red 🎼🎵🎶 🎨 🖌

Colours are all around us. They bring life to nature, vibrance to our centre, and expression to our emotions.

Red energises and excites, full of passion, love, and strength; whilst white speaks of peace and new beginnings.

Every colour has its own story to tell and colours remind us of the beauty of diversity and creativity!

What is your favourite colour? 🌈

Ka pai te ahiahi,
Today our tamariki put together a poi dance all by themselves as we played the 'E rere taku poi' song. Poi is a cultural treasure (taonga) deeply connected to Mãori whakapapa (historical and ancestral). It serves as a tool for expressing written words, telling stories, and preserving Mãori culture through generations.

For our tamariki, it plays a value of coming together as one and performing together.
Great for their tinana, korero, moving of their waewae, and holistic development of our tamariki.
Nga mihi,

✨ “Ko te reo te mauri o te mana Māori” ✨
The language is the life force of tangata whenua.

Kia Ora whānau,

This week for Māori Language Week, our tamariki delved into Māori myths and legends, focusing on the story of Hātupatu and the Birdwoman. This sparked curiosity about bravery and the lessons within pūrākau.

To enhance their learning, the children created colourful Rainbow Play-Doh, allowing them to express their ideas and connect storytelling with hands-on experience.

We also set up a variety of Māori cultural activities for our tamariki to learn from, giving them opportunities to explore and celebrate te ao Māori in meaningful ways

We’d love to hear from our whānau!
Do you have a favourite Māori myth or pūrākau to share with your tamaiti at home? We welcome your stories as we celebrate te reo Māori together!
