We had such a beautiful time celebrating Matariki with our whanaū on Wednesday evening. Every year, we host our families for hot vegetable soup, provocations, lovely korero, the opportunity to share aspirations for their child, and a Matariki concert put on by our Rata Grove preschool children. We love partnering with our community! Several times a within a school year, students from Stanhope Road school visit us to read stories and play with our tamariki. During a recent visit, we saw such beautiful mahi tahi (collaboration) tuākana-tēina relationship building), role modelling, leadership, social play, and problem solving. 💛

A couple of weeks ago, we hosted a lovely Parent Education Evening. Whānau had the opportunity to chat with our Kaiako to gain more in-depth knowledge of what we teach and how we teach within our Rata Grove preschool. 🌱✨

Our topics included:

1. School Readiness Programme: How learning links to various primary school subjects and what we are doing to prepare tamariki for a successful transition to school. ✏️ 📚

2. Connecting with our Community: How our tamariki benefit from excursions that strengthen their sense of belonging and connection with the wider community. 🚌 🤝

3. Te Reo Māori: How we integrate te reo Māori into our daily routines and the specific words and phrases we teach our tamariki. 🗣️ 🌿

4. Celebrating Cultures: What we do to recognise, learn about, and celebrate the diverse cultural backgrounds of our tamariki. 🌏 🎉

5. Social & Emotional Development: How we support the social and emotional needs of our tamariki, including strategies for building relationships and developing self-regulation skills. 💛 🧠

6. Music, Movement & Drama: How we integrate music and movement throughout each day, and why these experiences are so valuable for holistic development. 🎶 🎭

Last week, we celebrated Diwali! ✨ One of our lovely parents came in to share about this special cultural celebration and created beautiful henna for our tamariki.

Throughout the week, our tamariki also explored rangoli patterns and made our own diyas. 🪔
