After two rainy days, the children were excited to play in the garden, enjoying the sunshine and fresh air. Yesterday was such beautiful weather — not too cold, not too hot, with blue skies and white clouds.

The children have truly enjoyed this lovely autumn day. They explored through the bamboo area like little adventurers, searching for leaves, bark, garden creatures and more.

What a beautiful morning filled with exploration, connection, and joy!

At our Centre, children know they have mana whenua- this is a place where tamariki have a sense of belonging to our learning community (Te Whariki, 2017). Children become kaitiaki as they learn alongside their kaiako to care for themselves, their friends and their environment. This is expressed in so many ways - through caring for the garden, role play, taking ownership of tasks such as composting, baking, and being a kind friend to new children starting. Tino pai ko nga mihi nui tamariki!

This esteemed event takes place in a distinguished and prestigious manner, celebrating all that graduating tamariki have achieved along their ECE journey. Thank you tamariki, whanau and kaiako for making this event a very special occasion.

When little ones explore with their hands, feet, and all their senses, they’re building important foundations for thinking, communicating, and moving with confidence. Squishing, pouring, splashing, and mixing materials like sand, paint, water, or clay helps children strengthen fine-motor skills, develop hand–eye coordination, and make sense of the world around them. Sensory play also encourages curiosity, creativity, and early problem-solving as children experiment and discover what different materials can do. Most of all, messy play gives children the freedom to express themselves, follow their interests, and enjoy learning in a playful, open-ended way. It may get a little messy—but the benefits are truly worth it!
