Congratulations Vai!!
Respected elder in the Niue community, Vaitoelau 'Vai' Kumitau, has spent decades supporting families and students who move to Dunedin ❤️
She has helped them navigate homesickness and encouraging them to speak Vagahau Niue - the Niue language.
Vai is one of five Pacific community champions nominated by the Ministry for Pacific Peoples for the 2026 King’s Birthday Honours, recognised for her services to the Niue community.
Known as a 'nana' to many Pacific students, Vai has been a piece of home, helping them stay connected to their culture and identity.
