Did you know that about one million plant and animal species face the threat of extinction?

Biodiversity is the variety of plant and animal life in the world or in a particular habitat such as an ecosystem🌱

Without biodiversity, humans would not be able to live on earth , meaning it is important that we protect all kinds of plants, animals, fungi and bacteria🌍

Starting Term Two off strong, weeding, planting, and eating the occasional strawberry 🍓

It’s been so awesome to see people who haven’t planted 🌱, weeded, or watered 💧🌧 a garden before getting involved and their hands dirty, and now we’ve got our own little group of gardening experts 🧑‍🌾

As well as the garden taking off since the change of the seasons 🍂, we’ve been thrilled to see more biodiversity in our garden. Caterpillars 🐛 , Hu hu grubs, worms 🪱 and skinks 🦎 have all begun making their home in our garden!

We’ve got heaps of projects planned for the garden 🪴 this year, so watch this space!

Fun fact: bees love lavender 🌾 and they love it even more when it is grown without harmful pesticides and chemicals. 🪴 In the Long Bay College Regenerative Garden we aim to create a healthy and organic environment for all the bees in our community.
