This week we were lucky enough to have a visit from our volunteer fire brigade, our tamariki were ecstatic as this is a huge interest of theirs. They got to see what protective gear our firefighters wear, practice our fire drill, explore the fire appliance and sq**rt the hose. This was an amazing experience for our tamariki they were still talking about it the next day.

To our volunteer firefighters in Pukekohe and throughout New Zealand, thank you for your dedication, courage, and service to our communities. We truly appreciate the time you give to helping save lives and protect property, keeping our whānau and communities safe. Your commitment does not go unnoticed, and we are so grateful for all that you do.

🌿✨ Adventure, Discovery & Wonder at Best Hope Early Learning Centre ✨🌿

Our tamariki have been busy exploring the beauty of our local bush on their weekly haerenga (excursion) 🌳 This week brought so much excitement—discovering fruits in the community orchard, observing fascinating fungi, climbing trees, and even searching for tuna (eels)!

These meaningful experiences spark curiosity and wonder, creating rich pātai (questions) and deeper learning as our tamariki build strong connections with this special taiao (environment) over time 💚

In honour of Mother Earth Day, we’ve been reflecting on Papatūānuku and how we can care for our whenua—nurturing respect, kaitiakitanga (guardianship), and aroha for the world around us 🌏

At Best Hope ELC, we believe in rich, hands-on learning that grows confident, capable learners through real-life experiences.

✨ We have ONE full-time space coming up as one of our tamariki are relocating 😔 ✨If you’re looking for a nurturing, nature-based environment where your child can thrive, we would love to connect with you!

📩 Send us a message or come and visit—we’d love to welcome you into our Best Hope whānau.

We are so proud to share the success of our very first fundraiser, where together we gave back to our wider community with love and purpose ❤️

As a centre, we set a goal and are so excited to say that we reached it — thank you to everyone who supported us! There is still time to donate if anyone would still like to contribute.

This fundraiser became even more meaningful as one of our own heart babies, now a happy and healthy 4-year-old girl, shared her journey with us through special photos and a beautiful storybook. Her story touched us all, and it was especially moving to see her friends proudly put up their hands to take turns to express their love and support for her ❤️

To mark the occasion, we held a Dress in Red Day and invited everyone to bring along a gold coin donation. Our tamariki also enjoyed making and decorating heart biscuits, creating heart artwork to take home, and learning more about the important job our heart does in our bodies.

It has been a beautiful way to learn, connect, and show kindness while supporting such an important cause. We are incredibly proud of our children for the empathy, care, and understanding they showed throughout this experience

Celebrating Holi at Best Hope!

Our tamariki learned about the beautiful festival of Holi with the help of our wonderful kaiako, Alisha. She explained that Holi is known as the celebration of colour, a joyful festival that welcomes happiness, friendship, and the arrival of spring.

After learning about the meaning behind the festival, the children headed outside for some colourful fun! With lots of laughter and excitement, they shared powdered colours with one another while happily saying “Happy Holi!”

It was a joyful experience filled with colour, smiles, and connection as our tamariki explored another culture and celebrated together. What a bright and happy day at Best Hope!

Each week, our tamariki look forward to our special walk to our local bush — a time to connect with nature, explore, and grow their confidence in the world around them. As their familiarity with the environment deepens, so too does their curiosity and learning.

This week, the children eagerly tried their hand at fishing for eels. Although none made an appearance, the excitement and shared experience sparked rich conversations that continued long after we returned to the centre.

During our exploration, the tamariki noticed damage to some of the fruit trees. Feeling concerned, they carefully gathered fruit from broken branches, hoping they might still ripen and be used. This thoughtful response showed their growing understanding of kaitiakitanga — caring for and protecting our whenua.

Moments like these remind us that learning happens everywhere. Through exploration, empathy, and shared experiences, our tamariki are developing a deep respect and sense of responsibility for the natural world around them. 🌿

With several of our older tamariki soon graduating to school, we will have a small number of spaces becoming available. If you would like your child to join our learning community, we warmly invite you to come and visit us.

Celebrating Chinese New Year at Best Hope Early Learning Centre.

We were treated to a special dance by one of our talented kaiako. Our tamariki sat beautifully, fully absorbed in the magical beauty of what they were seeing.

The dance featured coloured silk ribbons. This dance is inspired by a traditional Chinese story, where flowing silk represents flowers gently falling from the sky, symbolising beauty, peace, and celebration.

Many children dressed in red or wore their own cultural outfits to mark the occasion. They have also had lots of fun making and eating dumplings, creating lanterns, and exploring writing in Chinese.

🌿 Exploring, Discovering, and Respecting Our Natural Environment 🌿

Our tamariki headed out on an excursion to our neighbouring bush, embracing the opportunity to explore, discover, and connect with nature.

Our children spent time investigating the fruit trees, searching carefully for insects and fruit. When they discovered macadamia nuts, there was lots of curiosity and wonder as some were unsure what they were. This sparked some amazing conversations, ideas, and problem solving as their little minds worked hard to make sense of their discovery.

Creativity and exploration continued as we made leaf boats together and watched them gently float down the stream. There were also opportunities for physical challenge and confidence building, with branches being carried, trees being climbed, and natural obstacles being navigated.

At Best Hope, experiences like these support children to build respect for the environment. Tamariki learn to explore gently, care for living things, and understand that nature is something we treasure and protect.

We are so proud of the way our children showed curiosity, teamwork, and respect while enjoying the beauty of our local environment.
