A Paeroa employer was fined $159,250 after pleading guilty to serious immigration law breaches and exploiting migrant workers.

In addition to this fine, and $140,000 already paid in reparations, they must also pay a further $18,684.72 and a $5,000 emotional harm payment for each victim.

Exploitation will not be tolerated in New Zealand.

The process to apply for an Australian visa just got easier thanks to the Australian Immi App.

Now live in 34 countries, the app allows eligible applicants to complete key biometric steps from their smartphones, helping reduce costs and processing times.

To be eligible, clients must have previously provided their biometrics (facial image and fingerprints) to the Department of Home Affairs and hold a valid passport.

New Zealand Minister Cracks Down on Employers Favouring Migrants Over Kiwis

A New Zealand minister has taken a firm stance against employers who continue to hire migrant workers instead of giving jobs to local New Zealanders. The government has warned that businesses exploiting immigration loopholes or bypassing locals for cheaper labour will face strict penalties and increased scrutiny.

The move comes amid growing concern about rising unemployment among Kiwis and reports of underpaid migrant workers in some industries. The minister emphasised that while migrants play a vital role in the economy, employers must prioritise hiring New Zealanders when qualified candidates are available.

Officials are now tightening work visa conditions and increasing inspections to ensure fair employment practices. The government says it’s committed to balancing the need for skilled migrants with protecting opportunities for locals in a challenging economic climate.
