In the run up to Father’s Day, we asked our tamariki a few questions about their dads and the special people in their lives.

Today we celebrate all those who support, guide, encourage, teach and care for our tamariki; the dads, stepdads, grandads, uncles, whānau, friends or other important people. We loved hearing what the kids had to say, and we hope you do too!

A reminder that our Pakiri School Pet Day is coming up on Saturday 12th September!
Join us for a fun community day with $15 hāngī, (order via email [email protected]) raffles, silent auction, kids’ games, sausage sizzle, bake sale, and plenty of family-friendly activities.
Pet judging starts at 10am, auction closes at 1pm, and food is available throughout the day. Everyone is welcome!
So, bring the whānau, enjoy the atmosphere, and support our little (but mighty!!) rural school in the heart of Pakiri!

NZ Children’s Book Week
This week we’re joining schools across Aotearoa in celebrating NZ Children’s Book Week, an initiative led by Read NZ to promote a love of reading and highlight the importance of stories in children’s lives. As part of the nationwide event, our students took part in the New Zealand‑wide read of Dazzlehands — a shared moment that connected tamariki around the country through one joyful story. We have been exploring characters,
illustrations, and the magic of reading together.
To wrap up the week, we’ll be holding a “Come dressed as your favourite book character” day this Friday. We’re looking forward to seeing the creativity and colour that Book Week
always brings — from classic favourites to new discoveries.

Last week, our students took part in another fantastic planting day, helping to plant native trees on Rodney Road. Through rain showers and bursts of sun, thousands of trees were planted as part of the fantastic Trees for Survival initiative, helping to restore local habitats, protect waterways, and support our environment for generations to come.

It was a wonderful day of learning, teamwork, and giving back to our community.

A huge thank you to all of the parents, volunteers, and supporters who gave up their time to help make the day such a success. We couldn't have done it without you!

Together, we hope to make a real difference; one tree at a time.

Yesterday we celebrated our students being at school for 100 days this year.

We have been counting and doing maths equations and problems all year with 100 and base 10, and so we asked the students to collect and bring in 100 items to share.

Our tamariki brought in their carefully selected buttons, beads, leaves, stones, small toys… and shells, collected on a beautiful sunset evening at our incredible Pakiri beach.

It was a learning celebration of all that has been achieved over those 100 days. 100 days of ideas, laughter, learning, growing and improving.

It was also a great reminder to reflect on the little moments. Noticing the shell in the sand to pick it up and admire it... Recognising the little steps of progress being made throughout the year.

We are very proud of how far our school family has come in the last 100 days. Let’s see what the next 100 brings!

In the run up to the end of term, with the approach of Matariki, we have been in the garden, made fresh soup, baked bread and learned songs that celebrate this special time of year.

As the Matariki stars rise, it's a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the year that's been, remember those who are no longer with us, celebrate the present, and look ahead with hope. Whether it's setting a new goal, making a wish, or simply spending time with whānau, we hope this Matariki brings you connection, rest and joy.

In honour of Mother’s Day, we asked our tamariki a few questions about their mums.

Today especially, we celebrate the many ways care, love, and guidance show up in the lives of our kids. We want to share extra special gratitude to all those who nurture, support, and “mother” — whether that’s mums, stepmums, grandmothers, aunties, whānau, friends, or other special people in our children’s lives.

Happy Mother’s Day from all of us at Pakiri School.

On Friday, our teachers and tamariki proudly wore pink to fundraise for Pink Shirt Day. We also created little 'T-shirts' of kindness to deliver randomly in the area to spread a little kindness where we could. (Check your mailbox - you may have a little message!)

Run by the Mental Health Foundation of New Zealand since 2012, Pink Shirt day gives us a great reminder as a school and community to stand together to celebrate kindness, inclusion, diversity and aroha, and to reject bullying and prejudice.
