McConnell Dowell kindly hosted two final-year project teams (Uriel Teo, Rogan Strachan, Canyu Chen, Xiaolong Wang) from UoA Dept of Civil & Environmental Engineering on a site visit last week to walk over the Walkworth to Snells Transfer Pipeline currently under construction. The students have been working on some great real-world construction problems supported by Daniel Patten and Craig Campbell, thinking about carbon impacts and construction efficiency in the direct pipe system. It has been fantastic to build this partnership with McConnell Dowell and integrate research and practice.

Hundreds of plants are being used to transform the rooftop of the Faculty of Engineering building at the University of Auckland as part of a trial to facilitate the uptake of green roofs in Aotearoa New Zealand. The green or living roofs can help manage stormwater runoff, improve air quality, help combat rising temperatures and offer enclaves for wildlife. The research is being led by Associate Professor Asaad Shamseldin of UoA Dept of Civil & Environmental Engineering. He recently shared his views about the usability of green roofs in an article in NZ Herald.
