Starting childcare? Here's what our community wants you to know 🌱

A little while ago we asked our community one question: what's your BEST tip for a new parent starting childcare?

Dozens of real parents answered, and their advice was full of heart. We've pulled together the best of it into five things every new childcare whānau should know.

1️⃣ Keep goodbyes short & consistent. Long goodbyes can actually make it harder for everyone. A hug, a smile, a calm "see you soon" — then go. Children pick up on your energy, so the more confident you are, the more confident they'll feel.

2️⃣ Talk to your child's Kaiako. Share the little things - sleep habits, comfort items, the quirks only you know. The more your Kaiako understand your child, the faster trust builds on both sides. Starting with shorter days before jumping into a full week can help everyone ease in.

3️⃣ Pack for mess, not perfection. Water play, paint, the sandpit, it's all part of a great day. Pack spare outfits (secondhand is perfectly fine!) and label absolutely everything: bags, bottles, clothes, all of it.

4️⃣ Be kind to yourselves It's completely normal to feel relieved and a little guilty, all in the same afternoon. Give yourself, and your little one grace. There's no "right" pace to settle in, and no need to compare your journey to anyone else's.

5️⃣ Trust the process. Tears at drop-off don't mean a bad day ahead. You are always their safe place, and childcare is where they build confidence, independence, and a whole new bunch of friends.
