Sorry everyone - been a bit slow on the posts lately 🫣However that doesn’t mean we have not been having fun! We had a blast at our Term 3 child outing at Bounce Avondale this week - putting to the test our gross motor skills and making new friends! We were impressed with our little ones stepping out of their comfort zones and trying new challenges! Look forward to our next trip … I wonder what it could be 🤔😉

We had a fun morning at My Wonderland - with lots of exploration on the colourful playground, challenging ourselves and our physical skills, while also making memories with our Kaiako. Thanks for coming - we hope to see you at our next child outing!

Looking for some winter ideas to explore - what about home made snow !
What you need:
baking soda
shaving cream
Dish or container (to mix it all up in)
DIY Snow Directions

Pour the baking soda into a plastic container with a lid.

Add some shaving cream, and knead it into the baking soda.

Add more shaving cream, mix, and repeat, until the mixture is the consistency of snow.

The DIY fake snow become light and powdery, and will leave very little residue on your hands when fully mixed.

Now that Winter is well and truly here let’s learn more about the animals that are around during the winter months by making a pinecone birdfeeder. Start by tying a string around the pinecone. Then mix peanut butter with cornmeal, and oats. Use a spoon, or your fingers, to spread the mixture onto the pinecones. Finally, pour some birdseed onto a plate and roll the peanut butter covered pinecones in the seed until they are completely covered. Hang the pinecone birdfeeders in a tree and watch the birds as they visit. You can discuss the different types of birds you see - and the colours they have.

And that’s a wrap! Another year of visiting our amazing families and being part of their learning journey!

We celebrated the end of the year with a bang - enjoying our Child Christmas Party at Crystal Mountain. What a great time, thank you to everyone who was able to make it!

Our office is closed from Wednesday 20th of December and will reopen Tuesday 16th of January - but as always your Visiting Teacher is available during this time.

Our tamariki make our world beautiful 💕

Blocks!
This month we have been focusing on the importance of block play.
📣Did you know that blocks are a valuable manipulation and creative resource for tamariki - where they are able to explore ideas about gravity, stability, balance, weight and trail and error! They also work on their hand eye coordination and muscles, explore early maths concepts and gain confidence in their own abilities! It’s also a wonderful activity to develop and encourage social skills!

We as Kaiako can allow tamariki to explore at their own pace and help put their ideas into practice by providing resources and time to allow them to explore this fun play!

Tuesday thoughts from us to you 💕

Let’s go bug hunting! 🐛
Jace has been having a blast searching for snails - and couldn’t wait to show me on my monthly visit !

What do tamariki learn from bug hunting?
There's no better way for kids to learn about the world around them than by getting out into it. Bug hunting encourages your kids to explore their own backyard in an open-ended way that will lead to adventures and imaginative play.

With the crazy weather that Tamaki Makaurau is having at the moment means we have to put on our creative hats on for some fun inside fun!

This is one great for your little ones who have lots of energy to burn off - a inside maze ! All you need is string and tape and then create your maze and let them try and reach the end of the maze without touching the string! Simple as that - but also so much fun!

Finding ways every day for tamariki to use large and small muscles allows them to gain increasing control over their bodies. Physical activity promotes their mental and emotional health as well as their physical well-being.

Hope your keeping safe and dry and damage this time around is to a minimal! We are thinking of you 💕

Let’s talk about Playdough!
This month we have been focusing on the benefits of Playdough Play - which supports tamariki to develop their hand-eye coordination, support fine and gross motor skills, incorporates role play and sensory exploration - developing different ways to be creative and expressive.
Playdough is also a great settling activity as it is calming and soothing - and often provides tamariki with a sense of security.

This week on my visit I got to meet these little guys - with Yusuf proudly introducing me to his new friends! How cute are they ! 🫢🐦
Animals are such a great learning tool for tamariki - learning everything from gentle hands, responsibility and understanding animal habitats!
