Stepping into an interview as an Internal applicant for a senior leadership role is a unique and humbling experience.

One of the most important considerations is this:
Don’t assume the interview panel knows you, or knows the depth of your impact.

Even when you work alongside or know the people interviewing you, your day-to-day decisions, strategic thinking and leadership moments aren’t always visible. Panels need you to articulate your practice, evidence your impact and clearly connect your capabilities to the role you’re aspiring to.

Being internal doesn’t mean the story tells itself.
You still have to tell it.

This is an opportunity to reflect deeply on:
🔹 the leader you are and the leader you’re becoming
🔹 the difference you’ve made, not just the work you’ve done

If you're applying internally, back yourself. Prepare with the same rigour as any external candidate. Provide examples. Share evidence. Make your thinking visible.

Most importantly, treat it as a chance to reintroduce yourself, not as who you’ve been, but as who you’re ready to be.
