Here at Palms we always talk about children’s play. However, what is “play” we are really talking about? Children’s play is a fun character: it is started from the first day in life, always ongoing, woven in all their action and thoughts, unpredictable, both influential and easily-redirected, ever changing, and what is even trickier? It might not look like playing to adults.
During the process of "playing," our tamariki acquire knowledge, skills, health, and joy, mastering the rules to survive within a relatively safe and controllable environment. This aligns perfectly with the original purpose of education and is also a significant reason why the early childhood education system in New Zealand places such great emphasis on "play".

Happy Diwali🥳

Diwali is one of the most important festivals in India as marking a new year. The date is determined by the India calendar and changes every year. The day is an Amavasya Tithi – new moon day. Diwali is the best time to worship Lakshmi, the god of wealth, for happiness, prosperity, and fame. The celebrations of Diwali last for five days with different rituals and traditions.

Day 1 Dhanteras: cleaning, preparing for the event, purchasing gold or metals.
Day 2 Choti Diwali: decorating with lights and creating rangolis, which are intricate desighs placed on the floors of homes.
Day 3 Diwali and Lakshmi Puja: the most important part of the celebration, the ritual takes place on this day. And also families are all well-dressed, get together to exchange gifts and have a large meal together.
Day 4 Padwa: celebrations of the love between husband and wife.
Day 5 Bhai Duj: celebrations of brothers and sisters.

It is a great chance for our children to learn and experience about Indian culture through this special celebration. Here are some ideas you could do with your little ones at home.

Quality care for young children

Our children love airplanes. Whenever we are outside, our children are always fascinated with looking for birds, helicopters and planes. They make the sound and stretch their arms like flying in the sky. This could be a great resource of inspiration for young aviators and learning about science, engineering and mathematic. Folding paper airplane could be an easy but fun intro activity to do with children. All you need to make one is a sheet of paper. Or you can allow your little ones to decorate and personalize the paper prior to folding the design. Have fun😆
