This morning, our girl got to spend her gift voucher (a christmas gift from her dear aunty) on 3 books - the most exciting of which is ‘s ‘Barefoot Kids’. Even I am excited to read it! Apparently have to wait ‘till she is done with it - which thankfully, knowing her reading habits, won’t take long at all.

Dear parent / teacher,
A gentle reminder from a little ‘old soul’. We were playing checkers this evening when she had an epiphany: “Mama, I’ve been thinking; there’s no day like today huh? So we should always make it a good one ae.”

To celebrate my 10YOD’s prize giving awards, we took her to our local hospice shop (op-shop/throft store) to buy 1 thing under $5. Hubby found a $5 item - this stunning Chinese checkers board! So beautiful, we decided this is now our Christmas gift - from each other, to each other. I have fond memories of playing this game in childhood. And now, I get to share this memory with my own girl.

Christmas need not be exhausting, consumptive, or expensive. Children will remember things their family did together, more than the things they received.
