What, exactly, is the colour of the future? In a 12-month project by G . F Smith, the world's largest colour survey aims to determine the colour that represents our collective future from a near-limitless palette.
“If we all take time to think about the future, and that's a big subject, does it look muted to people or do some people see the future in a completely different way?" asks Benjamin Watkinson, the company's global brand director. "We want to test and challenge the idea that the world is trending towards colourlessness. The future is an exciting, intimidating and, for some people, scary thing to consider – what might that mean in terms of colour and how does that change globally?”
Benjamin will join this week's Semi Permanent Aotearoa lineup to mark the launch of the survey. Take part in the special project now: https://colourofthefuture.com

, the esteemed Tāmaki Makaurau-based painter with an inexhaustible imagination, has today been announced as the inaugural recipient of the Church Road Art Initiative. The prize, awarded by the acclaimed winery, will see a major work by King acquired by MTG Hawke's Bay, to be displayed as part of its permanent collection.
"Shoutout for supporting painting and art," said the artist. "These are weird times, and painting itself is weird. It helps people slow down and process in a unique and vital way. A very big thanks to the judges and thank you to my friends and family for the ongoing encouragement and aroha.”
To celebrate the milestone, King will join the forthcoming main stage lineup of Semi Permanent Aotearoa 2023, where alongside Church Road Winery's chief winemaker Chris Scott, he'll discuss his creative process and the parallels between art and winemaking in a conversation hosted by The Art Paper's editor-in-chief Becky Hemus.
