To all you parents out there teaching your children at home, you have my utmost respect, especially if you are also working from home. I have been looking after my 2 grandchildren aged 8 and 6 and trying to teach them. What a challenge, doing online learning with both of them and trying also to do my HIPPY work. I am exhausted by the end of the day. So a nga mihi nui to all of you and congratulations on your perseverance over this long lockdown. Doreen
HIPPY Wesley
(Home Interaction Programme for Parents and Youngsters) is a home-based early education programme working in 40 communities around New Zealand.
HIPPY serves families from a wide range of ethnic and geographic groups across the country.
Hi everyone,
Here we go again with lockdown Level 4. For those of you who were on the programme last year or the beginning of this year, you are familiar with what happens while under lockdown. For the families who haven't done HIPPY under lockdown circumstances what we do is deliver the booklets to your home (your tutor has already delivered you packages) then the tutor will set up a time to video call or have an internet meeting.
If you are busy working with school aged children and find doing HIPPY too much to do at this time, Please, please don't stress. Do whatever you can. If you need to hold off until children return to school let your tutor know. This is understandable. What you may find helpful is to do HIPPY activities with both your HIPPY child and your school aged child/children. What is important is that you don't stress out and you and your children enjoy spending this time together.
If you are needing extra help and resources please let your tutor or me know. By help I mean anything from HIPPY activities or mental health support or food. Wesley Primary school has offered if you need this support they may be able to help. Of course this is all done confidentially.
Going by the amount of Covid positive numbers today I believe we will be in level 4 lockdown for a few more weeks, then we will go down to level 3. At level 3 we still do not do home visits.
Please all stay safe at home within your bubble and we shall get through this. This is a good time to remind your children the importance of good hygiene, wash your hands often, sneeze or cough into the elbow, then wash your hands again. Wear a face mask when outside. Do not use public play grounds. Stay local to your home.
Thanks everyone.
Doreen
