Kia ora. My name is Theo van de Klundert (they/ them) and I’m your AUSA - Auckland University Students' Association Q***r Rights Officer for 2023. This is my second term in office, which I hope will be as illuminating and energy filled as 2022. I am also the Chair of the AUSA Q***r Student Council, AUSA’s commitment to providing a voice for LGBQI identifying students on campus.
In 2022, I was elected on the simple premise that the spirit of equity is about empowering minorities to make decisions for themselves where it is the duty of organs like University of Auckland - Waipapa Taumata Rau and AUSA to recognise the needs, challenges our communities face and the unique perspectives that we bring.
Through the work we have done in 2022 to rebuild Q***r Equity. I hope to cultivate an all inclusive, student led LGBTQI community on campus that serves the needs of everyone. ❤️

AUSA STANDS IN SUPPORT OF OUR STAFF AT WAIPAPA TAUMATA RAU
Tēnā koutou katoa,
We hope the summer break is treating you well.
AUSA is aware of the ongoing impact that the current strike and withholding of grades is having on students. The University has set up an online form for any students who have been impacted by the strike. We respect the rights of the TEU to strike, but we also understand that there are some students who are in desperate need of their grades during this crucial time of the year for international visas and other enrollment/scholarship deadlines. We encourage these students to please fill out the form that the University has created (link below) if you have been impacted. As an Association, we would like to voice the concerns of students and stand in solidarity with our hard-working staff. We have written a letter to the Vice-Chancellor on behalf of the student body and to speak in support of the staff.
We would like to acknowledge the hard work of our academic and professional staff at the University. For many of our students, front-facing staff are central to a good student experience. Because of this, and specifically because of the dedication and commitment that staff have shown over the past three difficult years, we stand in support of them.
We understand that the University has engaged in bargaining and there is a meeting tomorrow. AUSA has engaged constructively with both the TEU and University Executive Committee on the matter and implore all parties to see a fair common ground being met soon to minimise the impact on students. We look forward to hearing a positive update tomorrow.
Additionally, there is a current petition which has been started by some students to show their support for the staff. Please check it out via the link below.
For further and media enquiries please contact the President on [email protected]
Ngā mihi nui,
AUSA Executive
