Kia ora wonderful creatives!
This Friday August 16th, join us for a special evening designed to bring our community together. We’re hosting an informal “after work” get-together at the Basement Makers Space, nestled conveniently between Q Theatre and Tanuki’s Cave.
🕔 Time: 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM
📍 Location: Basement Makers Space
In light of the recent funding results announced on Monday [plus previous results] we understand there might be mixed feelings about the future. Let’s counterbalance any industry mamae [hurt] with some collective care and support. This evening is all about reconnecting, sharing a drink, and simply enjoying each other’s company.
Come along to unwind, chat, and celebrate the strength of our creative community. No agendas, just a space to be together, to support one another, and to strengthen our collective bonds.
We look forward to seeing you there for some casual kai, camaraderie, and good vibes.
Bring a plate, a snack, maybe some soda pop and good vibes!
Any questions, please send us a DM!

Do you have any friends who received funding this week? 🎉
Make sure you give everyone their flowers 💐across the next few days because they absolutely deserve to be celebrated and uplifted for their brains and creativity. Even though there’s a lot of mamas in our communities at the moment because of these decisions, please know it’s not a reflection on your or your ideas.
We can’t wait to see how these kaupapa all come together over the next 12 months, and we’re looking forward to reflecting over Matariki to see how we can support creatives going into the new rounds in August.

How long does it take for you to organise a dinner out with friends? 👀
Incredibly, this dinner took 6 months of scheduling and rescheduling because of all our different kaupapa and lives but I am so excited we were able to meet for several reasons!
Not only did we come together to wānanga about how our individual Regeneration Fund kaupapa are going, we also covered a huge range of topics from arts sustainability, what career pipelines exist (or don’t exist) for arts managers in Aotearoa, swapped intel on funding, equity updates, upcoming opportunities. We talked 5 year plans and strategy and how we can support one another, from pets, pies and partners and cultural loads on us and our community leaders.
It’s hard to believe this was the first time we had all met together! 😂🫣
But this is EXACTLY what VOLT is for. To connect with other producers going through the same things as you, to lean on people for support, to sense check decisions, and I absolutely loved the first of many catch ups with these two epic producers.
, producer of , has been guiding 26 incredible producers in training across a programme supporting Asian, Black and Middle Eastern creatives, working alongside and Alif Theatre. They have found 17 organisations to provide placements for them to put their learnings into practice 🤯💪 WOWWWW!
And our good friend from is the kaitiaki of He Kai Kei Aku Ringa, an internship programme supporting the development of Māori producers with full time employment and guiding them through processes of venue producing and project holding through on the ground learning ✨🤌🏽
It’s so exciting meeting and speaking with other people dedicated to upskilling, sharing knowledge, resource and dismantling systems that don’t work for our communities anymore. There’s much to talk about but lots to celebrate and I look forward to future collaborations and support networks for our independent sector going forward!
