Hi everyone,

Bonsai meeting this Thursday night at the clubrooms (47 Aviemore Drive - Highland Park community centre).

Bring some things to work on - I'll be repotting a few trees that are in need of a good sprucing up (tree pun intended).
Make sure to bring a good display tree for the show table also!

There'll also be a couple of plants for auction so bring your spare change.

Please feel free to bring along anything for sale if you have extras.

The farm dig this year will be on Sunday 30th August. If it's rainy it might be worth postponing it for another weekend, (date to be confirmed.) Let me know if you are keen and I will send the address - it's the same as last time for all those that attended. Bring a plate for a shared lunch, and I'll crank up the BBQ if needed.

Marno and Nadia (ex Auckland Bonsai Club members) are importing South African made bonsai pots if anyone is interested. Just copy and paste the URL address into your browser and it should go to their web site.

Hi everyone!!

This coming Thursday 16th July is club meet night - usual place and usual time (6:30pm at 47 Aviemore Drive, Highland Park)

Bring along some trees to work on, and anything you like for the display tables.

Please feel free to bring along anything for sale if you have extras.

Which weekend suits you all best for the Club lunch get together? I think either the 1st or 8th August is best? I'll do my best to please everyone!

We'll be having a yamadori dig again on the farm again this Spring, so sharpen those shovels and prepare the coarse bonsai mix. Dates TBC, but I am thinking the end Aug/ beginning Sept is usually best, possibly a Saturday. Bring a plate seems to work fantastic, so we can try all the different yummies!

It would be great to have a club garden crawl again. I'm thinking early to mid October? Does a Saturday or Sunday work best for people? I'll start organising it now if everyone is keen? Let me know!

Next show coming up is probably the Hamilton Bonsai club annual show:
Hamilton Gardens Pavilion
Date: Saturday 12th & Sunday 13th September 2026
Time: 9am – 4pm (approx.) Entry: $7.50 – Under 12s free
.and again, there is also the National Show in Lower Hutt for the harcore enthusiast....
Lower Hutt Events Centre, 30c Laings Road, Lower Hutt Central 5010, October 9 – 11, 2026.

See you all Thursday evening,
K

Hope some of you made it across to the Auckland Bonsai Show this last weekend - I made it last-thing Sunday and it was pretty amazing! Great to have a catch up with so many people too...

Hi Team,

Yay!! We have the green light for the clubrooms at 47 Aviemore Drive, so we will be back there again for the next meeting (at 6:30pm) tomorrow night on the 21st May!! πŸ˜€πŸŒ²

Theme of the month is flowering bonsai, such as Camelia (some of which are out at the moment - in particular the sasanqua varieties), so make sure to bring these along to flaunt!

Bring along some trees to work on if you like, or just come along for the great conversation and bikkies 🀣

Make sure to check trees for "wire bite" as the trees are thickening late summer and autumn, causing the wire to dig into the branches. If the branch hasn't set in place yet, just rewire it the opposite direction again when it's stopped swelling.

Additionally, with the weather deteriorating and the days getting shorter, it's a great time to start planning and think about which trees need repotting in early spring, and to start gathering the materials/medium you need for this. It's a good opportunity now to wash lots of pumice etc while it can still dry properly, as dry bonsai medium gets into the root spaces better when repotting.

Again, a reminder of the Auckland Bonsai Society's Annual Club show that is being held 13-14 June at Kumeu Community Centre. The event is now live on Eventbrite, tickets can be bought through the web page.
Entry to the general display is $10 (+ processing fees), and if you want to attend the demonstrations they are about $150/day. Samuel Thompson from Australia will be the main demonstrator, along with a selection of known and new NZ demonstrators: Brendon Covich, Matt Hutson, Adrian Bird, Martin Walters, Rob Addis and Zianne Van Zyl.
There are also workshops being held with Samuel during the week
Make sure to get the tickets on the Eventbrite web site.

Good evening everyone!

Our club meeting is at 6:30 this Thursday at the temporary venue of Anchorage Park Community House (Map below). The temporary address is: 16 Swan Crescent, Pakuranga.
I just found out that the car park will be closed and scaffolding up for painting of the building, so we'll just have to park down the roadside, and do our best.

Bring your trees to work on - as usual there is lots of cleaning and pruning to do at the moment.

Topic of the month again is "Deciduous" - Bring along any colouring up tree you have to show off. It would also be great if you can give a quick chat about how you maintain and look after it, what conditions it loves etc. so we can all learn as well.

Unfortunately because of the poor weather forecast this weekend, we have had to postpone the carving workshop to a later date. We will let you know as soon as we know when this is going ahead!

FYI Auckland Bonsai Society's Annual show is being held 13-14 June at Kumeu Community Centre. The event is now live on Eventbrite, tickets can be bought through the web page.

Good afternoon everyone!

The EBC March meeting is this Thursday evening at 6:30, but there is an important change of venue to note:

NEW VENUE FOR APPROX 3 MONTHS
As the usual clubrooms are undertaking maintenance, we have been moved to Anchorage Park Community House for about the next 3 months. The new address is: 16 Swan Crescent, Pakuranga. (See attached map). I will confirm the venue each month.

Bring some trees to work on like usual. There's no shortage of maintenance to be done with your trees at the moment - a lot of pruning / setting up good growth for next year etc. to be done....

Topic of the month is Deciduous - Bring along any colouring up tree you have to show off. It would also be great if you can give a quick chat about how you maintain and look after it, what conditions it loves etc. so we can all learn as well.

Thanks again to James and his accommodating family for hosting the Saturday workshop (and yummy shared lunch) It was great to work in such an inspiring location, and I am sure we all learnt a lot!

A carving workshop is in the planning tubes at the moment - we will let you know the time and place as soon as we confirm details.

Hope to see you all there!
K
