Te rā whakawhanaungatanga ō te kaupapa “Puāwai”

In this session with our new kaupapa ‘Puāwai’, our taiohi were tasked with passing the Mauri (rugby ball) around and sharing korero. This gave our taiohi the opportunity to stand in their Mana, speak confidently, feel heard and build connections.

MANA INC

Well what to say about this awesome team at Mana Inc based in Papakura. Established only four years ago with no resource, and nothing more than passion and drive for change to improve the lives of young tauira Māori struggling in school and with the youth justice system.

In only four years, Mana Inc have served over 200 rangatahi through programmes focussed on te taiao, mahinga kai, mahi toi, and the trades. I had the privilege of meeting a few of those rangatahi, and heard stories of how a number had been in and out of court, youth justice centres, and facilities not designed at all to cater to their specific needs as rangatahi Māori.

To put it simply, Mana Inc not only changed their lives, in some cases, it saved them. They are now on a journey towards expanding into other parts of the rohe, to support the growing number of rangatahi that have reached out for support.

What a beautiful way to close Cook Islands Language Week - with traditional kai lovingly prepared by the beautiful mama (Tau Matapo) of Alby. 🇨🇰❤️

Te kai a te ‘inangaro (food is love), and we absolutely felt that aro‘a in every bite today.

We are so grateful to you and your mokopuna for creating this moment for us. It was the perfect way to honour the richness of Kūki ‘Āirani culture.
