Swim Safer week is coming and it's all about raising awareness about the importance of learn to Swim and Water Safety. NZSCTA have also launched the Swim-It-Forward campaign in recognition that swimming lessons are not something everyone can afford. This campaign will see those with extra funds able to sponsor families in need.
On Saturday 18th November at 8am the Swimsation team will begin a 24-hour float to raise awareness around the importance of a great back float & hopefully help NZSCTA with donations towards NZSCTA $100,000 Swim-It forward target.
More information on this event and how you can get involved will be available on

Swimming Waikato and Coastguard Safe Boating have worked together to provide specific training, equipment and support to empower local swim educators and kaiako to confidently teach vital boat safety skills to their aakonga. Using the boats and life jackets gives tamariki a real life activity to practice their new water safety skills which significantly helps embed learning. The loan of an inflatable boat and life jackets made it possible to reach significantly more tamariki in Coromandel and Waihi than previously planned. We love to make a difference.

We are so proud to be working with Swimming Waikato who have done an amazing job in Term 1 in both Hamilton and Thames-Coramandel in getting over 1200 students through the Safe Boating Programme. We love to hear all the feedback and how much the kids learn. Well done to the team at Swimming Waikato!
Feedback from teachers:
β The boat part was especially important as we are next to the sea and many students have opportunities to go on a boat and we do not have life jackets or a boat to teach these important skills.β Kirsty, Moanataiari School, Thames.
βThe use of equipment made such a difference to the children's engagement.β S.Grant, Waipa School, Ngaruawahia

The Safe Boating Programme is an initiative designed to provide practical, boating and water safety experience for children - regardless of their confidence in the water. We are delighted to announce that Swimming Waikato have just won the Waikato Sport & Active Recreation Award for the second year running for their Water Safety Program and Life Jacket Hub. Congratulations!

The Surf Safety Camps at the YMCA Sunset Beach Surf Lifeguard started last week and has had a really good response. It's about educating participants to be safe in Surf, water and around boats among other activities. We went down to help them on their first day and were able to get the children in the water learning the programme, it was so awesome.

Swimsation has delivered our safe boating programme to 2400 children last term alone and have such a passion for swim safety. To raise even more awareness they are doing a 24 hour float challenge on Sunday 27th November at Papakura Swimsation. So if you can go along to support them then drop in or donate online.
Please take 5 minutes to read this letter and then share it with others that you care about. Let's all have fun on the water this summer but more importantly lets get home safe.
