Exciting news for our community!
We are honored to announce that OhanaBJJ is being represented at the Mid Canterbury Sports Awards this year!
I am incredibly humbled to be nominated for Trident Homes Coach of the Year, and a massive congratulations to James Yeast El Phantasmo for his nomination for Heartland Print Master’s Sportsperson of the Year.
This is the first time Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu has been represented at these awards in Mid Canterbury.
We hope this recognition helps continue to promote and grow the sport we love so much within our region.
Good luck to all the fellow athletes and coaches nominated! OSS!

Last weekend, our team took on the NZ GRAPPLER Southern Challenge in Christchurch!
Our fighters spent three months preparing for this day.
For some, it was their very first competition, for others, it was their first time stepping up into multiple categories.
Our academy finished 5th overall! This is a huge testament to the hard work everyone has put in.
We couldn't be prouder of the heart and grit every single athlete showed on the mats.
A massive thank you to our coaches, families, and teammates. Your support is what helps our academy reach new heights!

Last Monday we participated in the New Zealand Masters Games.
It was the first year that masters games added Brazilian jiu jitsu to the official games.
This competition we had two competitors
Dave shaw ( ) And James Yates( El Phantasmo ).
Dave finished all of his fights with a submission in absolute Blue belt decision and won the 1st place 🥇
James had amazing fights and he fought in two both GI and No-Gi decisions.
He won most of his fight with a submission and got 1st place 🥇 in a No-Gi and 2nd 🥈in the GI
Thank you and for the amazing support 🙏
A big shout-out to for the amazing experience! And for promoting jiu jitsu within New Zealand
