🥈 Congratulations to Shawn Li, who recently represented New Zealand at the 2025/26 Australian Youth and Cadet Championships in Sydney, Australia.

Shawn was selected for the New Zealand National Junior Fencing Team in May and travelled to Sydney in July to compete against some of the region’s top young fencers. Competing as part of the New Zealand Under 15 Men’s Épée Team A, Shawn and his teammates delivered an outstanding performance, earning a place in the final and bringing home the silver medal.

What makes this achievement even more remarkable is that Shawn has been fencing épée for less than a year, and this was his first time representing New Zealand on the international stage.

Representing New Zealand is an incredible accomplishment and a reflection of the hard work, dedication and perseverance Shawn has shown in reaching this level. We are incredibly proud of his success and look forward to following his fencing journey.

Building resilience, one lesson at a time!

Yesterday our Year 7 and 8 students took part in the first of four resilience sessions in Homeroom, inspired by Jake Bailey’s powerful message about the 4 S’s of Resilience.

Through the Marshmallow Challenge, students experienced firsthand how setbacks are a normal part of learning while practising:
Slowing Down – breaking challenges into manageable steps
Salvaging – finding the positives and learning from mistakes
Streamlining – resetting and adapting when things didn’t go to plan
Standing Alongside – encouraging and supporting one another

It was a fantastic session filled with teamwork, perseverance and reflection, reminding students that FAIL = First Attempt In Learning.

We look forward to continuing our resilience journey over the next three Homeroom sessions.

Our Primary students had a fantastic time welcoming The NED Show to Pinehurst yesterday afternoon.

Through plenty of laughter, storytelling and some incredible yo-yo skills, students explored the importance of perseverance, kindness and believing in themselves.

🏃‍♂️ North Harbour Year 7-8 Cross Country Zone Day

Despite the cold and a few rain showers, our 35 Year 7 and 8 athletes brought awesome energy to Noth Harbour Cross Country Zone Day this week. They ran hard, stayed focused, and showed real resilience out on the muddy course. Outstanding mahi from everyone.

A big shout out to Amelie Bonner who placed 11th in the Year 7 Girls, Cynthia Su who placed 5th and Cathy Tian who placed 17th in the Year 8 Girls.

The Mindset for Success isn’t about avoiding challenges - it’s about building the resilience to overcome them.

Last Thursday, Pinehurst welcomed internationally recognised speaker, author and resilience educator Jake Bailey for two inspiring sessions with our school community.

During the day, 725 students and 60 staff from Years 7–13 explored practical strategies for building resilience, developing confidence and embracing setbacks as opportunities for growth. In the evening, Jake returned to speak with around 90 parents, followed by an engaging Q&A where he generously shared further insights and practical advice.

🔥 Punching well above our weight.

An incredible four days of racing came finished on Sunday at the 2026 New Zealand Secondary School Swimming Championships, held at Auckland’s Sir Owen Glenn National Aquatic Centre.

Competing against some of New Zealand’s largest schools, Pinehurst finished an outstanding 4th overall and brought home an impressive 26 medals!

🥇 2 Gold (Shawn Li)
🥈 8 Silver
🥉 16 Bronze

But the success story goes well beyond the medal tally. Across the four days, our team of 19 swimmers achieved numerous personal bests, showed tremendous determination in the pool and demonstrated outstanding sportsmanship.

The team spirit on poolside was exceptional, with swimmers constantly encouraging and supporting one another, creating a fantastic atmosphere throughout the championships.

To finish 4th in New Zealand is a remarkable achievement and a testament to the hard work, commitment and resilience of our swimmers. We are incredibly proud of the way our students represented Pinehurst, both in and out of the water.

⚖️ Junior Mooting Team Achieves Runner-Up Success

Congratulations to Emily Zhang, Lola Guo, Oscar Yao, Milton Wang, and Kevin Shen, who were Runners-Up in the Junior Division of the Meredith Connell Mock Moot Court Competition, finals held 28 July.

The competition began in late April and included three preliminary rounds, followed by quarter-finals and semi-finals at Diocesan School for Girls. Throughout the competition, the team demonstrated outstanding legal advocacy, critical thinking, and teamwork. The students were expertly led by senior mentors Jamie Han and Gloria Li, whose guidance helped the team achieve this impressive result.

Adding to the team’s success, Emily Zhang was selected by the ASLM Board as the recipient of the Most Memorable Mooter Award, a prestigious individual honour recognising her exceptional advocacy, courtroom presence, and contributions throughout the competition.

Well done to all involved on these outstanding achievements.

✨Celebrating Student Leadership

A huge congratulations to Year 7 students Miller Liu and Patrick Sun, who ran a Mini Chemistry Class at Albany Village Library during the school holidays.

With over 80 children and adults attending, they demonstrated outstanding leadership, teamwork and a passion for sharing science with their community.

We are incredibly proud of Miller and Patrick for making such a positive impact beyond the classroom.

🌟An incredible achievement by Pinehurst student Zara R. (Year 11)!

During the term break, Zara travelled to Christchurch to compete at the Diving New Zealand National Championships. After putting in an incredible amount of work leading up to the World Aquatics Junior Diving Championships in Rijeka, Croatia, her hard work has definitely paid off.

Competing in the Junior Elite A Girls division, Zara achieved:
🥇 Gold – 3m Springboard
🥇 Gold – 3m Springboard Synchronised
🥉 Bronze – 1m Springboard

Zara also stepped up to compete in the Open Women’s 3m Springboard, where she claimed an outstanding 🥈 Silver medal against New Zealand’s top senior divers – an exceptional result competing against New Zealand’s best.

These results are a testament to Zara’s dedication, perseverance and commitment to her sport. We are incredibly proud of everything she has achieved and wish her every success as she prepares to represent New Zealand at the World Aquatics Junior Diving Championships later this month.

🌏 💃 Representing New Zealand on the world stage, Isabella Z. (Year 10) has achieved outstanding success at the GDC World Ballroom Championships in Beijing.

Competing against talented dancers from around the world, Isabella delivered an exceptional performance, earning:
🥇 1st – Over 13 Years Elite Solo Ballroom Waltz
🥇 1st – Over 13 Years Elite Solo C Grade Latin
🥈 2nd – Over 13 Years Elite Solo Ballroom Tango
🏅 4th – GDC World Open Solo Ballroom

These results reflect Isabella’s commitment, perseverance and passion for ballroom dancing. We are delighted to celebrate her achievements and the way she has represented both New Zealand and the Pinehurst community on the international stage.
