डेनमार्कको सुख छोडेर माडीको माटोमा सुन फलाउँदै डा. भानिश्वर पोखरेल

~~ नेपालमा कृषि पढेकाहरू अक्सर जागिर वा विदेशको खोजीमा हुन्छन्, तर चितवनको माडीमा एक यस्ता पात्र भेटिन्छन् जसले विदेशको उच्च ओहोदा र सुख-सुविधा त्यागेर आफ्नै माटोमा क्रान्ति गरिरहेका छन्। उनी हुन् डा. भानिश्वर पोखरेल, जसको कथाले नेपाली कृषिको आधुनिक भविष्य झल्काउँछ।

डा. पोखरेलले नेपालको रामपुर कृषि क्याम्पसबाट स्नातक गरेपछि थप अध्ययनका लागि डेनमार्क पुगे। त्यहाँबाट उनले कृषि विषयमा स्नातकोत्तर र पीएचडी (PhD) पूरा गरे। उनले डेनमार्कको कृषि अनुसन्धान केन्द्रमा वर्षौँसम्म वैज्ञानिक र अनुसन्धान निर्देशकको रूपमा काम गरे। तर, आफ्नो ज्ञान र सीपलाई आफ्नै देशमा प्रयोग गर्ने उद्देश्यका साथ उनी ६ वर्षअघि नेपाल फर्किए।

नेपाल फर्किएपछि उनले चितवनको माडी-४, खैरेनीमा व्यावसायिक खेती सुरु गरे। उनले सञ्चालन गरेको 'माडी कृषि पाठशाला' अहिले एउटा उदाहरणीय फार्म बनेको छ। सुरुमा १६-१७ बिघाबाट सुरु भएको उनको खेती अहिले व्यक्तिगत रूपमा २५ बिघा र साझेदारहरूसँग मिलेर करिब १०० बिघा क्षेत्रफलमा विस्तार गर्ने लक्ष्यमा छ।

उनको फार्ममा टमाटर, खुर्सानी (क्याप्सिकम), आलु, फर्सी, खर्बुजा र काँक्रो जस्ता विभिन्न तरकारी तथा फलफूल उत्पादन गरिन्छ। यहाँ नेपालको 'नार्क' (NARC) ले विकास गरेका जातहरूका साथै नेदरल्याण्ड्स र थाइल्याण्डका आधुनिक बीउहरूको पनि परीक्षण गरिन्छ।

डा. पोखरेलले फार्ममा 'फर्टिगेसन' (Fertigation) जस्तो अत्याधुनिक प्रविधि अपनाएका छन्। यसमा सिँचाइको पानीसँगै पाइपमार्फत बिरुवालाई चाहिने मल पनि प्रत्येक गरा र बोटको फेदसम्म पुर्याइन्छ। फार्ममा करिब १५० किलोमिटर पाइपको सञ्जाल बिछ्याइएको छ। यसले गर्दा जनशक्ति कम लाग्ने र उत्पादनको लागत घट्ने उनी बताउँछन्।

उनको फार्म केवल व्यापारिक केन्द्र मात्र होइन, यो एक अनुसन्धान केन्द्र पनि हो। यहाँ स्नातकोत्तर र पीएचडी तहका विद्यार्थीहरूले प्रयोगात्मक अनुसन्धान गर्छन्। साथै, फार्ममा आवासीय सुविधासहितको तालिम केन्द्र छ, जहाँ वार्षिक रूपमा करिब १,००० जना किसान तथा विद्यार्थीहरूलाई आधुनिक कृषिको तालिम दिइन्छ।

खेतीलाई दिगो बनाउन उनले फार्ममा गाई, भैँसी र बाख्रा पनि पालेका छन्। पशुपालनबाट प्राप्त हुने गोबरलाई प्रयोग गरी उनले आफ्नै फार्ममा 'भर्मी कम्पोस्ट' (गड्यौला मल) उत्पादन गर्छन्। उनी भन्छन्, "माटोको स्वास्थ्य सुधार्न प्राङ्गारिक मलको विकल्प छैन, र पशुपालनबिना खेती अधुरो हुन्छ।"

डा. पोखरेलको फार्मले स्थानीयस्तरमा करिब ४५ जनालाई प्रत्यक्ष रोजगारी दिएको छ। उनले महिला र पुरुष कामदारलाई 'समान कामको समान ज्याला' दिने नीति लागू गरेका छन्। उनी कृषिलाई एउटा उद्योगको रूपमा विकास गरी युवाहरूलाई स्वदेशमै बस्ने वातावरण बनाउन चाहन्छन्।

पीएचडी गरेर किन खेतीमा लाग्नुभएको भन्ने प्रश्नमा डा. पोखरेलको सरल दर्शन छ "खुसी हुन अरूसँग तुलना नगर्नुस्, अपेक्षाहरू कम राख्नुस् र आफ्नो सपनाको काममा व्यस्त रहनुस्।" आफ्नो परिवार र छोरा डेनमार्कमा भए तापनि उनी नेपालकै माटोमा काम गर्दा बढी सन्तुष्ट र खुसी देखिन्छन्।

डा. भानिश्वर पोखरेलको यो यात्राले एउटा महत्त्वपूर्ण सन्देश दिएको छ: "कृषि पढेकाले खेती गर्नु र खेती गर्नेले कृषि पढ्नु आजको आवश्यकता हो।" उच्च शिक्षा केवल जागिरका लागि मात्र होइन, समाज र देशको उत्पादन प्रणाली बदल्नका लागि पनि हुनुपर्छ भन्ने कुरा उनको जीवनले प्रमाणित गरेको छ।
