Departmental Workshop on the Sadharanikaran Model of Communication as a Theoretical Framework for Advanced Research organized at DOLMC
Kathmandu, September 3, 2026 — The Department of Languages and Mass Communication, Kathmandu University School of Arts, organized a Departmental Workshop on the Sadharanikaran Model of Communication as a Theoretical Framework for Advanced Research organized at the BMT Building, Kathmandu University School of Arts, Hattiban.
The workshop focused on strengthening the theoretical foundations of research being conducted by PhD scholars and MMS students using indigenous communication theories.
The workshop brought together researchers who are applying the Sadharanikaran Model of Communication (SMC) and Sancharyoga theory as theoretical frameworks in their research. Six PhD scholars and two MMS students are currently using SMC as a theoretical framework, while one PhD scholar is using Sancharyoga theory. The workshop provided a platform for intensive academic discussion on the conceptual foundations, application, and implications of these theoretical frameworks in research.
The programme opened with remarks by Prof. Dr. Nirmala Mani Adhikary. Dr. Raj Kumar Baral participated as an expert and delivered a presentation on “The Concept of Theoretical Framework with Special Reference to Sadharanikaran Model of Communication.” His presentation focused on the significance and application of theoretical frameworks in communication research, with particular reference to SMC.
The workshop also featured a presentation by Trishna Acharya on “Work in Progress: SMC-Based Indicators for Data Collection and Data Analysis.” The presentation discussed the ongoing development of SMC-informed indicators for guiding data collection and analysis in research.
The participants engaged in an intensive discussion on the theoretical frameworks and their application to ongoing research. The workshop provided an opportunity for researchers to exchange perspectives, clarify theoretical and methodological issues, and strengthen the alignment between theoretical frameworks and research processes.
The programme concluded with discussions aimed at enhancing the rigor and reliability of research employing indigenous communication theories.
