You will never be forgotten Late: Dorjee Namgyal sir
आज भदौ २१ स्व. प्रिनसिपल दिर्जे नामग्याल लामाको ९ औं वार्षिक पुण्यतिथिको हार्दिक शरध्दान्जली।

हाम्रो अस्तित्व तपाईको पसिना र मेहेनतले बनेको हो, त्यो हामी कहिले पनि बुल्न सक्दिन ।

Late Principal Sir Dorje Namgyal Lama (1950-2012)
Sir Dorje Namgyal Lama was born in the year 1950 in the Manang district of Nepal. He had a miserable childhood after the sudden demise of his parents. He was taken off from the street by the Canadian and got an opportunity to study in SOS school in India. Because of what he went through his childhood, he made it his life task to offer a chance for other street children to make their future better by providing free education and shelter.

Buddha Academy Boarding School was established in 1989 on land donated by the late king Birendra Bikram Shah Dev. In 1991 when late sir Dorje Namgyal Lama took charge and shouldered the overall administration and management of the school as the principal, the school had forty boarders and some fee paying day scholars. The school was in crucial financial state it was nearly closing down, as it had a debt of over five thousand hundred Nepali Rupees (NRs.500000). Mr. Dorje just had a hundred and eighty rupees (Rs. 180) in his hand. Late Sir Dorje Namgyal Lama with full determination and dedication for the deprived and needy children, against all odds took over the entire responsibility and worked hard to find donors and sponsors for the school. He took it as a personal mission to transform the school into safe haven for street children, orphans and deprived children of Nepal. Late Sir Dorje was very successful in doing so with his tireless efforts in finding sponsors and donors. By then BABS saw new growth in infrastructure and quality education. The school was also able to purchase a new school organic farm and was able to provide proper facilities for children. Mr Dorje also did numerous programs for betterment of the entire staffs of BABS in the following years and was largely responsible for bringing up Buddha Academy to its present level of Development and success.

Sir Dorje Namgyal was honoured with the Highest Civilian Award “GORKHA DAKSHIN BAHU IV “(An Order Of Knighthood of Nepal) also the “SIKSHYA SEWA PADAK” (Gold Medal for Services in Education) and many other Felicitations and various Awards. Late Sir always believed that this recognition was the result of the collective effort of everyone involved in BABS. He changed the lives of many children, it is said. “The things you do for yourself are gone when one is gone but the things that you do for others remain as your legacy.” And his legacy and love for children will always remain through BABS for many years to come. Thank you Sir Dorje Namgyal Lama.
