The effects of bullying: Young Australian boy tells mum he wants to die 20/02/2020

We go to schools to talk about bullying and its impacts it can have in our children.

Most of the teachers/principals /co-ordinators say they don't have it their schools.

Perhaps they don't have the eyes to see it until it is too severe.

The effects of bullying: Young Australian boy tells mum he wants to die The young Aboriginal boy repeatedly told his mother that he wanted to die after another student patted him on the head "like a puppy".

“Sticks and stones will break my bones but words will never hurt me”
I remember hearing this rhyme when I was younger and hating it.

When you have gone through emotional/psychological abuse you know the full effects that words from people can have on you and your life.

Many, including myself, that have been exposed to psychological or emotional abuse will tell you that they would far sooner have preferred to have been hit or beaten physically.

I was bullied in every way possible from physical to emotional and psychological right through to the good old having my lunch money taken.
And all these years later the part that still has an effect on me is the WORDS not the actions.

Words? Why words?
Words have a ripple effect power. It goes deeper inside, deeper than a bruise or a broken bone, as time goes on those words take over your soul, they become your perceived reality, they can own you and you’re entire being.

Remember this when you’re in a bad mood and remember this when you snap, remember this always.
Words hold an absolute power.
People do not forget and they can not simply let them go.

Words can shape or break a person.
Words can be so powerful.
So remember, choose your words wisely.

And as the saying goes ‘the pen(word) is mightier than the sword’ and ‘with great power comes even greater responsibility’.
