One year ago, we launched VayuDrishti.com with a simple belief: people deserve to see the air they breathe.
What started as an idea has now grown into a movement. Today, VayuDrishti is not just a website, but a growing ecosystem of data, technology, and awareness, working to make air pollution visible, understandable, and actionable.
In this one year:

1 billion+ data points processed and analyzed
Real-time monitoring powered by low-cost systems
Workshops and awareness programs reaching hundreds of students
But more than numbers, this journey has been about purpose. Every dataset, every sensor, every dashboard is a step toward protecting lives and empowering decisions.
Coming from a small place in Nepal, building something that reaches beyond borders has not been easy. There were challenges, doubts, and limitations, but also belief, resilience, and a vision that kept moving forward.
And this is just the beginning.

हो, अहिलेको क्षणमा काठमाडौंको वायु संसारकै सफा सूचीमा पहिलो नम्बरमा पुगेको छ। वायु गुणस्तर (AQI) १० मात्र छ, जुन टोरन्टो, सिएटल र हेलेसिन्कीभन्दा पनि सफा हो।
तर यस्तो किन भयो?
किनभने वर्षाले वायु सफा गरिदिन्छ।
जब वर्षा पर्छ, प्रत्येक थोपा वायुमण्डलमा रहेका धुलो, धुवाँ र स–साना प्रदूषणका कणहरू समात्दै तल झर्छ।
यो प्रक्रियालाई “wet deposition” भनिन्छ, जसको अर्थ हो पानीले आकाशलाई धोइरहेको हुन्छ।
त्यसैले वर्षा पछि वायु हल्का, ताजा र सफा लाग्छ। दृश्यता बढ्छ, र लामो समयपछि फेरि हिमालहरू स्पष्ट देखिन थाल्छन्।
रोचक कुरा के छ भने दिल्लीले पनि यस्तै प्रभाव ल्याउन क्लाउड सिडिङ (कृत्रिम वर्षा गराउने प्रविधि) प्रयोग गर्ने प्रयास गरेको थियो, ताकि वायुमा रहेका धुलो र धुवाँलाई सफा गर्न सकियोस्।
यो क्षणले देखाउँछ कि वायु प्रदूषण स्थायी होइन, सुधार गर्न सकिन्छ।
तर प्रकृतिको साथमा मानव प्रयास र प्रविधि पनि उतिकै जरुरी छन्।
यदि हामीले विज्ञान, प्रविधि र सचेततामार्फत समर्थन गर्यौं भने,
हामीले प्रकृतिको पुनर्सन्तुलनलाई दिगो बनाउँदै स्वच्छ वायुलाई स्थायी रूपमा सुरक्षित गर्न सक्छौं।
त्यसैले अर्को पटक पानी पर्न थालेपछि सम्झनुहोस्, यो केवल सडक सफा गरिरहेको छैन,
आकाशलाई पनि धोइरहेको हुन्छ।

Kathmandu is now the cleanest major city in the world!
Yes, for this rare moment, Kathmandu has topped the global clean air ranking with an AQI of just 10, cleaner than Toronto, Seattle, and Helsinki.
But why did this happen?
Because rainfall cleans the air.
When it rains, each droplet captures dust, smoke, and tiny PM2.5 particles in the atmosphere and carries them down to the ground.
This process is known as “wet deposition”, meaning the rain is literally washing the sky.
That’s why after rainfall, the air feels lighter and fresher, visibility improves, and the Himalayas reappear on the horizon.
Interestingly, Delhi also tried cloud seeding, a technology that induces artificial rainfall, to achieve a similar air-cleaning effect when pollution reaches hazardous levels.
This shows that air pollution is not permanent; it can be improved.
But nature alone is not enough. Human effort and technology are equally important.
By combining science, innovation, and awareness,
we can make clean air not just a moment, but a permanent reality.
So next time it rains, remember, it’s not just cleaning the streets,
it’s washing the sky.
