๐บ๐ธ Important Update for International Students in the USA! ๐
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has finalized major changes to the F-1 and J-1 visa system, effective September 15, 2026.
๐น Duration of Status (D/S) will be replaced with a fixed admission period of up to 4 years, linked to the program end date on your I-20 or DS-2019.
๐น Students who need additional time will need to formally apply for an extension of stay using Form I-539.
๐น Schools will no longer automatically extend a studentโs stay.
๐น The post-completion grace period will be reduced from 60 days to 30 days, impacting OPT and job-search planning.
๐ What does this mean for students?
The USA is not closing its doors to international students. However, students will need to plan ahead, monitor deadlines carefully, and complete immigration paperwork well in advance.
๐๐บ๐ธ Genuine students can still pursue excellent opportunities in the USA โ but proper planning is now more important than ever.
