Nepal Academy of Tourism and Hotel Management (NATHM) has a history of almost four decades of service leadership in the Nepalese Tourism and Hotel Management Education and Professional Training. Established by the Government of Nepal in 1972 with the technical assistance of UNDP/ILO with the aim to produce skilled workforce required by hospitality and tourism industry, NATHM was formerly known as
Hotel Management and Tourism Training Center (HMTTC). Since its inception, the Academy has been playing a crucial role in developing the human resources for this industry and supporting for enhancing the level of delivered quality of services in the tourism and hospitality industry of the nation. As the industry has been growing rapidly in past few decades, the need for skilled workforce has also been increasing immensely. To respond to the market need, the Academy has been offering its services under two segments – professional training, and academic programs. As part of its professional training programs, the institution has been providing with craft and supervisory level, skill-oriented culinary arts, operational revenue management, travel and tour management, and behavioral change communication through both its central location and mobile and outreach training initiatives. The Academy, in consultation with the industry, has launched a three-year, skill-oriented academic program Bachelor of Hotel Management (BHM; since 1999). Another equally high in demand program is Bachelor of Travel and Tourism Management (BTTM; since 2003). Both of these programs are offered in affiliation with Faculty of Management, Tribhuvan University (TU). These programs are aimed to produce skilled workforce to oversee supervisory level jobs in the respective industry. More recently, the Academy has added Master of Hospitality Management (MHM; since 2011) in its academic service mix to fulfill the need of managerial level workforce for the industry. Both the professional training and academic programs of NATHM have been well recognized globally and NATHM graduates have been placed in many reputed national and international chain institutions in tourism and hospitality.
