Extremely Excited to announce that Today (21.12.21) one of my music students, Badal Lama releases his debut album!
Badal was 12 years old when I started teaching him music. His first instrument was the cello - bigger than him when he started - but undeterred, he persevered and as his enthusiasm grew he also picked up the violin and guitar. After teaching Badal and other Kidz for 3 years I moved on to other things, but continued to encourage Badal to pursue music as a career and as a means of self expression. Today I celebrate his first professional appearance on the world stage.
(P.S. I didn’t know it then - but in 2013, when my students performed music for Akong Rinpoche at Children’s Home in Kathmandu - it would be our last meeting.
Beaming, as always, Rinpoche spoke to me afterwards: ‘Help me to make my kids successful’.
This was his last instruction to me, and I feel that in some small way I have honored that request)
On the page below you can hear previews and there are direct links to iTunes, Spotify, Amazon, Deezer....

Akong Chenno ( Timrai Samjhana Ma ) 30/03/2021

I didn’t know it then, but when my students presented a performance of music for Akong Rinpoche’s Birthday Party at his Children’s home in Boudha, Kathmandu, (2013), it would be our last meeting. Looking incredibly happy, Rinpoche spoke to me afterwards and he said ‘Help make my kids successful’.
These were his last words to me.

Badal Lama was 11 years old when I started teaching him music. He was one of a handful of my students who not only had a natural ability but also a passionate hunger for understanding more. He never missed a class and was so keen that he was learning a few different instruments at the same time

After teaching the Rokpa Kids for 3 years I moved on to other things but always continued to encourage those who were keen to pursue music as a career option and as a means of self expression. I went on to tutor Badal towards musical arrangement and production skills.

Now at 19 years of age, the fruit of his labors can be seen here with this Song ' Akong Chenno (Timrai Samjhana Ma) written and performed by him a few other Rokpa Kids.

* On 21st November Badal releases his first album of 8 original songs entitled ‘Let it Come, Let it Go’ - available on all music distribution platforms including CD baby, itunes, Amazon etc.

Badal will be the first Rokpa kid to release a Music album internationally.

May this Upcoming Star Shine Bright!

* I will post more on this closer to the release date.

Akong Chenno ( Timrai Samjhana Ma ) Myself and a few Rokpa kids got together to write and film this song in Remembrance of Akong Rinpoche as an offering in the hope of a swift return to contin...

The Neuroscience of Drumming: Researchers Discover the Secrets of Drumming & The Human Brain 27/05/2019

One reason why we introduce an understanding of Rhythm first - regardless of the instrument being learned.

The Neuroscience of Drumming: Researchers Discover the Secrets of Drumming & The Human Brain An old musician’s joke goes “there are three kinds of drummers in the world—those who can count and those who can’t.” But perhaps there is an even more global divide. Perhaps there are three kinds of people in the world—those who can drum and those who can’t.
