As part of the two-day national workshop on Climate Change, Digital Transformation and Carbon Emission Reduction in Nepal, organised by Kathmandu BernHardt College in collaboration with the University Grants Commission (UGC) Nepal, the opening session on June 6, 2026 commenced with a comprehensive presentation of the workshop's guiding objectives and anticipated outputs.
The workshop overview, presented to all distinguished participants and guests, outlined three principal objectives: a systematic gap mapping exercise to identify critical deficiencies in Nepal's current carbon mitigation framework, the development of a forward-looking digital roadmap for sustainable environmental action, and the conceptualisation of concrete pilot projects with practical implementation potential.
The session further identified the Kathmandu Declaration as the primary and most significant expected output of the two-day deliberations, representing a collective and formally documented scholarly and policy commitment toward low-carbon development in Nepal.

Kathmandu BernHardt College successfully conducted the first day of its two-day national workshop on Climate Change, Digital Transformation and Carbon Emission Reduction in Nepal on June 6, 2026 at Bafal, Kathmandu, organised with the institutional support of the University Grants Commission (UGC) Nepal and the technical support of Nepal Digital Association.
The day commenced with a formal and ceremonially significant opening session, graced by the distinguished presence of Chief Guest Prof. Dr. Sanjaya Acharya, Member of the National Planning Commission of Nepal. The occasion included the symbolic lighting of the Digital Carbon Lamp alongside a live display of Nepal's carbon intensity data, a gesture that set a purposeful and academically grounded tone for the scholarly exchanges that followed throughout the day.
Prof. Dr. Sanjaya Acharya subsequently delivered the keynote address, offering a comprehensive and analytically rigorous examination of Nepal's traditional carbon reduction strategic vision through national SWOT and PESTEL frameworks, the multifaceted challenges and emerging opportunities within the climate resilience landscape, and Nepal's broader trajectory toward sustainable and resilient national development.
The afternoon plenary session, presented by Mr. Anil Verma alongside key experts Mr. Kushal Gurung, Mr. Manoj Thakur, Mr. Madan Koirala, and Mr. Jagdish Rauniyar, advanced a forward-looking digital carbon mitigation vision, drawing on international precedents and examining Nepal-specific policy, technological, and institutional challenges with scholarly depth and practical orientation.
The day concluded with a structured and participatory group workshop facilitated by Mr. Jeebanath Adhikari, Mr. Pramod Rijal, Mr. Jagdish Rauniyar, and Mr. Anil Verma. Participants collaboratively mapped stakeholder expectations, identified critical emission sources, and examined substantive policy and data gaps across key national sectors including energy, transport, industry, and agriculture. Each group subsequently presented their findings in a brief but substantive plenary session.
Kathmandu BernHardt College expresses its sincere appreciation to all distinguished speakers, expert facilitators, and dedicated participants whose scholarly engagement and active contributions made the first day of this national workshop a truly productive and academically meaningful occasion.
