The way we make music continues to evolve. So do the ways we learn from one another.

As new ideas emerge, the Diploma in Jazz & Contemporary Music continues to grow with them. This year, we are introducing project-based learning as a part of that journey.

Applications are now open for the September 2026 intake.

Kathmandu Jazz Conservatory presents the Diploma in Contemporary Music, a unified program built from 8 years of Jazz Diploma experience and nearly 4 years of Pop/Rock Diploma, introduced in 2025.

The program prepares musicians for today’s music scene with strong foundations in private lessons, music theory and ear training, rhythmic studies, improvisation, ensembles, and choir.

It also expands into music production, arranging and composition, music entrepreneurship, music education and pedagogy, Nepali folk and Hindustani classical music, and project-based learning. Introducing our new project-based module, Live Music Performance, where students gain practical experience in producing, promoting, and performing high-quality concerts in professional music venues.

With nearly 150 alumni from Nepal and India working in the music industry and education sector, and over 20 studying at leading music schools abroad, the program continues to bridge learning with real-world practice.

Applications opening soon.

International Jazz Day at KJC is one of those moments where music spills beyond practice rooms, where students don’t just play notes but share energy, stories, and presence with each other.

In between rehearsals, conversations, and spontaneous jams, something quietly beautiful takes shape, a reminder of why we started playing in the first place.

This is what it feels like when jazz is not just learned, but lived.

He first walked into KJC as a student in our Diploma program. Curious, committed, and learning one note at a time, Nishant Shakya began his journey here with questions, practice, and a deep love for music.

Today, he returns to the same space, now as an instructor.

A full circle moment that reflects what KJC stands for: growth that continues beyond the classroom and musicians who eventually become mentors.

This is Nishant. And this is his journey with us.

On International Jazz Day at KJC, we sat down with musician Prince Nepali for a conversation that bridges tradition and improvisation.

From the voice of the Sarangi to the language of Jazz, this session explores how sound evolves when cultures meet and how expression finds new form in dialogue.

A moment of listening, learning, and celebrating what music can become.

At Kathmandu Jazz Conservatory, every teacher brings their own way of understanding music and sharing it with students.

Pranav Rana works as a Piano and Vocal Instructor, guiding students through both instruments and voice with a focus on clarity, expression, and musical understanding. His teaching comes from the idea that music is something to be experienced first and refined over time.
