A gift to nation (Basmati rice open pollinated cultivars) from Nepalese Farming Institute (NFI), Kathmandu. Last year our country imported rice worth of NRs. 39 Billion. Similarly, farmers have been purchasing paddy hybrid seeds, every season, worth NRs. 400 to NRs 650 per Kg. However, crop failures are reported time to time.
To manage these problems our teams have developed paddy open pollinated Basmati cultivars producing higher yield than hybrids.

Last year we compared our pollinated Basmati cultivars with Chinese hybrid under cost-effective organic farming system. Chinese hybrid produced 6 Ton/hectare where as Himali Basmati, Pahadi Basmati and Terai Basmati produced 6.5 Ton, 8 Ton and 8 Ton per hectare respectively. Similar results are expected to repeat this year.

All stakeholders are requested to visit our experimental plot.
