📢 Important changes for students planning to study in the UK!

The UK Home Office has announced major updates to the Student Visa and Graduate Route (Post-Study Work Visa). These changes will affect visa applications submitted from November 2025 onward.

🔺 Student Visa – Updated Financial Requirements

Effective from 11th November 2025

Students will need to show increased proof of funds for living expenses:
• 💷 £1,529/month – for courses in London
• 💷 £1,171/month – for courses outside London
• 📌 Proof required for up to 9 months of living costs
• 🏠 Accommodation offset (if prepaid): now up to £1,529

🎓 Graduate Route – Post-Study Work Visa Update

Effective from 1st January 2027
• ✅ Bachelor’s & Master’s graduates: Now eligible for 18 months stay (reduced from 2 years)
• ✅ PhD graduates: Still eligible for 3 years under the Graduate Route

Assessment Level 2: What It Means for Nepal

Please note that this upgrade does not guarantee visa approval nor does it introduce an automatic visa process.

Under Australia’s Genuine Students (GS) framework, countries are assigned Assessment Levels ranging from Level 1 (lowest immigration risk) to Level 3 (highest risk). These levels determine the strictness of the student visa application process.

Nepal’s Upgrade to Assessment Level 2 Signals:
• Lower Immigration Risk:
Nepal’s transition from Level 3 to Level 2 reflects a lower perceived immigration risk, which can potentially benefit Nepalese students.
• Relaxed Documentation Requirements:
Applicants might not be required to submit financial and English language evidence in every case. However, it is advisable for all providers to perform due diligence. The exact requirements often depend on whether the chosen education provider is considered high quality and low risk.
• Streamlined Visa Processing:
Students applying to reputable education providers with a strong compliance history may experience faster, simpler visa assessments with fewer document checks.
• 80% Visa Grant Quota:
Each education provider has an allocated cap where only 80% of total student visa applications can be approved. Providers exceeding this quota might subject additional applications to further scrutiny, which could result in delays or refusals. Thus, selecting a reliable and compliant institution becomes more critical than ever.

Will There Be More Visa Grants for Nepal?
Not automatically. The increased chance of success is conditional on choosing an education provider that operates within its allocated visa quota. Genuine students who submit GS-compliant applications—demonstrating clear study intent and a well-defined study plan—stand a higher chance of approval.

Recommendations for Nepalese Students Under Assessment Level 2:
1. Submit a GS-Compliant Application:
Ensure that your application clearly reflects your intent, includes a genuine study plan, and aligns with your academic and career goals.
2. Choose a Quality Education Provider:
Select an institution with a strong reputation, proven compliance history, and that is operating within its 80% visa grant quota.
3. Be Prepared for Documentation:
Although documentation requirements might be relaxed, be ready to provide financial and English language evidence if requested.

This depends largely on the risk rating of the education provider (i.e. whether they are considered a good quality, low-risk provider).

2. Streamlined Visa Processing
Students applying to good quality education providers with a strong compliance history may experience simplified and faster visa assessments.

Fewer document checks and quicker processing may be possible for students who meet GS criteria.

3. Introduction of the 80% Quota Allocation
Under the GS framework, each education provider has been allocated an 80% cap (visa grant quota) for students

This means only 80% of the total student visa applications from may be granted

Providers who exceed this quota may face additional scrutiny, delays, or refusals — so selecting a reliable and compliant institution is more important than ever.

🤔 Will there be more visa grants for Nepal?
Not automatically. But with Assessment Level 2 and by choosing a provider within their visa quota, genuine students from Nepal have a higher chance of success.
