Know Your Rights: What are the legal working hours for workers in Nepal?

When managing construction sites or projects, it's essential to stay compliant with labor regulations. Under the Labor Act, 2074 (Section 28), the standard working limits are clearly defined:

Daily Limit: Maximum of 8 hours per day.

Weekly Limit: Maximum of 48 hours per week.

Rest Breaks: Workers are entitled to at least a 30-minute rest break after every 5 hours of continuous work.

Overtime Rules: Working beyond these hours requires worker consent and must be compensated with 1.5 times the regular hourly wage rate.

Chinese Supervisor Killed in Loader Accident on Fast Track Project in Makwanpur

Incident Overview: A fatal accident occurred on the Kathmandu-Terai/Madhesh Expressway (Fast Track) construction site located in Mahadevtar, Bhimfedi Rural Municipality-8, Makwanpur. A 51-year-old Chinese national was struck and killed by the rear wheel of a loader.

Victim Details: The deceased was identified as 51-year-old Guo Fangshun, who worked as a supervisor for the China Railway No. 2 Engineering Group Co., Ltd.

Loader Driver: The heavy loader was being operated by 48-year-old Gaursingh Saud from Kanchanpur.

Police Action: Following the incident, a team from the Makwanpur District Police Office prepared the initial site investigation report (muchulka) and sent the body to the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital morgue in Maharajganj, Kathmandu, for a post-mortem examination. Further investigation into the incident is currently underway.
