Training Program on Respiratory Equipment at MMIHS

The Manmohan Pharmacy Students’ Association (MPSA), in collaboration with the Student Quality Circle (SQC), successfully organized a highly interactive Training Program on Respiratory Equipment for final-year B. Pharm and B.Sc. Nursing students at MMIHS.

Proper device technique is a cornerstone of effective respiratory care. However, studies consistently show that a significant proportion of patients use inhaler devices incorrectly. As future pharmacists and nurses, our students will play a vital role in identifying and preventing these errors and ensuring that patients receive the full therapeutic benefits of their medications.

The training provided hands-on learning on Metered-Dose Inhalers (MDIs), Dry Powder Inhalers (DPIs), spacers, and nebulizers, with a strong emphasis on correct device handling, administration techniques, and patient counseling. Students explored the specific requirements of different devices—from the slow, deep inhalation required for MDIs to the quick, forceful inhalation needed for DPIs—helping bridge the gap between a prescribed medication and its intended therapeutic outcome.

Beyond classroom theory, the session focused on developing practical clinical competence. For nursing students, the training enhanced their ability to safely prepare and administer respiratory medications, assemble nebulizers, assess inspiratory effort, and ensure proper use of spacers. For pharmacy students, it strengthened their counseling skills, enabling them to effectively demonstrate inhaler techniques, identify common errors, and educate patients on proper medication use.

Ultimately, proficiency in respiratory devices empowers future healthcare professionals to improve medication adherence, reduce preventable complications and hospital readmissions, minimize healthcare costs, and enhance outcomes for patients living with respiratory conditions such as asthma and COPD.

Special thanks to our dedicated trainer, distinguished guests, MPSA executives, volunteers, and everyone whose valuable contribution made the program a seamless success.

Here’s to continuing our commitment to practical competence, patient-centered care, and clinical excellence for tomorrow’s healthcare leaders!
