Tracey was killed in a fall during a climb on the trekking peak Imja Tse (Island Peak) in 1991. Tracey, along with her friend Joanne Chittenden, had decided to climb Imja Tse to raise awareness of the growing environmental degradation of the Khumbu region of Nepal. In her memory, it was decided that a new project on ecotourism should be established to provide education on safe and ecologically sus

tainable trekking methods to preserve Nepal’s unique and fragile ecosystem. Joanne Chittenden and friend Johnnie Woods returned to Nepal and worked together with colleagues based here including Steve Powers, Wendy Brewer Lama and the late Dr. Chandra Gurung to study the impact of trekking on Nepal in order to develop a way to increase access to environmental and safety information. This brought about the establishment of the Tracey Taylor Young Mountain Trust in the UK and KEEP in Nepal. KEEP then obtained support from the late Lord John Hunt and by the autumn of 1992, KEEP’s Visitor Information Centre in Kathmandu opened its doors to the public.

Practical AI for Sustainable Tourism in Nepal – Training Begins Today!

Kathmandu Environmental Education Project (KEEP) is pleased to announce the commencement of a three-day training on "Practical AI for Sustainable Tourism in Nepal", taking place from 3–5 August 2026.

The training is being facilitated by Dr. Omer Choresh from Israel and brings together 23 participants from Nepal's tourism industry, including tourism entrepreneurs and professionals eager to integrate Artificial Intelligence into their daily work.

Throughout the training, participants will gain practical skills in using AI for:
✅ Effective communication with international clients
✅ Writing travel itineraries and tourism proposals
✅ Storytelling and destination interpretation
✅ Digital marketing and content creation
✅ Enhancing visitor experiences through AI
✅ Responsible and ethical use of AI in sustainable tourism

KEEP is delighted to welcome all participants and extends its sincere appreciation to Dr. Omer Choresh for sharing his expertise and practical insights. We look forward to three days of learning, innovation, and collaboration to strengthen Nepal's tourism sector through responsible AI.

Heartfelt congratulations to all the participants for successfully completing the two-week Basic French Language Training and actively participating in the plant weeding program at Shankharapur Municipality–2. Language skills play an important role in the tourism profession, helping tourism workers communicate effectively with international clients and enhance their professional careers.
