New Bird Species Recorded in Nepal
A new bird species, the White-cheeked Starling (Spodiopsar cineraceus), has been discovered in the Annapurna Conservation Area of Nepal, bringing the country's total bird species count to 895. This species is commonly found in China, Japan, Mongolia, North Korea, Russia, South Korea, and Taiwan, and has also been sighted in Laos, Myanmar, the Philippines, and Thailand.
White-cheeked Starlings are known for their omnivorous diet, consuming fruits, seeds, insects, and small invertebrates. They are social birds, often forming large flocks, and exhibit complex vocalizations. This discovery highlights the rich biodiversity of Nepal and the importance of conservation efforts in the Annapurna region.
