Ghode Jatra, or Horse Racing Day, is celebrated in Kathmandu today featuring a special program at Tundikhel where the Nepali Army cavalry team performs various stunts; according to local belief, the event originated from defeating a demon, with the horse parade at Tundikhel believed to keep the demon's spirit away and also serving as a religious ritual to welcome the Nepali New Year.
