International Day for the Elimination of Sexual Violence in Conflict – June 19
Every year on June 19, the world observes the International Day for the Elimination of Sexual Violence in Conflict. This day reminds us that people should be protected from sexual violence, even during times of war and conflict.
During conflicts, many innocent people suffer. Some women, girls, men and boys become victims of sexual violence. This includes actions like r**e, sexual abuse, forced marriage and other forms of harm.
These acts can deeply hurt a person’s body, mind, and future.
The day was created by the United Nations in 2015 to spread awareness about these serious crimes and to support survivors. It also remembers an important decision made by the United Nations in 2008, which recognized sexual violence during conflicts as a major threat to peace and human rights.
This special day teaches us that sexual violence is not a normal part of war. It is a crime and those responsible must be held accountable. Every person has the right to live with safety, respect, and dignity.
We can help by learning about this issue, respecting human rights, supporting victims and speaking against all forms of violence.
Building a peaceful world requires kindness, equality and protection for everyone.
A world without violence is a world where every person can live with dignity and hope.

World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought:
Protecting Our Land and Future
Every year on June 17, the world observes World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought. This day was started by the United Nations in 1994 to create awareness about the problems of land damage, desertification and drought.
Desertification means when healthy and fertile land slowly becomes dry, damaged and unable to produce enough crops. This can happen because of deforestation, overgrazing, poor farming methods, climate change and lack of water.
This day reminds us that land is very important for our lives. We need healthy land to grow food, get clean water, protect plants and animals and maintain a balanced environment. When land is damaged, it affects farmers, communities and future generations.
Many countries are working to solve this problem. In Africa, the Great Green Wall project is helping restore dry land by planting trees and improving farming methods. In China, land restoration projects have helped reduce soil erosion and improve farming. In India, communities are protecting water through traditional water harvesting and conservation methods. Other countries are also working on sustainable farming, forest protection, and drought management.
People from different educational backgrounds work together to protect the Earth. Environmental scientists study nature and climate. Agricultural experts help farmers use better farming methods.
Forestry experts protect forests and restore damaged land. Water specialists work on saving and managing water. Engineers create solutions like irrigation and water storage systems. Social workers and community leaders help people understand and practice sustainable ways of living.
Everyone can contribute to protecting our land. Planting trees, saving water, reducing waste, protecting forests and using natural resources wisely are simple steps that can make a big difference.
Countries like Nepal can also benefit from these efforts through community forestry, water conservation and climate-friendly farming practices.
Protecting land today means protecting food, water and life for tomorrow. Let us work together to keep our planet green and healthy.
